Thumbs down VAT rise should mean Fuel Duty drop of 2p?

What do you think the government will not take the 2p off that they put on to balance out the drop in VAT........... They'll probably call it another GREEN Tax to try and make us feel better about being fleeced.
Or do they need it to pay all the bankers bonus's and pensions.....
I really am thinking of emigrating from this severly fecked up country.

What the sneaky ******* did was as the VAT fell to 15% they made the difference up by adding 2% onto Fuel Duty Tax so they didn't loose out on what they'd budgeted for. The price of fuel didn't change and the strange looking dude who's the pretend chancellor (we all know Gordon's still running it) slipped in the increase in Fuel Duty near the end and tried to make it sound green as usual.
Which is why i say in December when VAT goes up will 2% come off Fuel Duty or will we have another sneaky increase in tax for drivers.
Bring on the next election, hopefully this time people will get it right.

Any other party in power is not going to suddenly reduce petrol prices. Assuming Labour lose, whoever gets in the hot seat can do pretty much whatever they want and then when we all complain they will just say well look at the hand we've been given, what do you expect? Miracles?

Yeah, that's very true.
I think there are a lot of people about who think that voting in elections counts for something - that we are in some way exercising a choice.
A choice between what I ask you?
Wake up and smell the coffee!
I'm afraid Crispy may be right.

The Americans were told it was time for change at their last election and it's certainly time for change here.
As I've said before though, whoever wins the next election will have to cut spending and raise taxes. There's no avoiding it whatever politicians tell you!

May I refer you to,

https://www.scoobynet.com/non-scooby...clescheme.html

Do less driving to make up for the increases, I know it isn't always possible for a lot of people but you can make savings, cars are great but we do over use them, we are now so addicted and dependent an 2p increase causes to advocate shooting people from high rooftops.

Come on - if we really cared about the cost of fuel - we would not be driving around in cars which do 20mpg on a GOOD day!!!

I agree, it's not nice to pay an extra 2p a Litre in Tax - but, we paid £1:25 a Litre last year to keep running the car we love ........ if we really cared about the cost we would be running a boring Diesel ..

Pete, like my Cycling argument this is a little bit of very very mild trolling but remember where we are, common sense and thrift when it comes to transport doesnt enter into it !

So, its a Diesel Yaris or a Push bike, Ill take the bike*

anything less than a £ a litre is way to cheap imo (if you compare it to what it was a litre in the 80's and 90's)

everyone better get used to petrol in the £1.20 - £1.30 coz thats what it will be as soon as world industrial output increase

every barrel that OPEC sells a $40 is one that they can never sell again at a higher price -- and with a finite resource why would they do that?

We owe money big time. Someone has to pay the banking elite to retire to Monte Carlo. :P

What we need is a series of public infrastructure projects to facilitate economic benefit in X years.

I can see the truckers coming out in protest big time if the trend continues.

It's precisely because I get 20mpg that it bothers me, the more petrol you use the more it costs you.
