Dhubai Hotel - Jebel Ali
Currently looking at honeymoon destinations for July this year, and this hotel has been flagged as a possibility.
Looks good from website/reviews, but do any of you have any personal experience?
Also, how expensive is food/drink in Dhubai?

Been told not to bother. Much of the place is a building site and while there are some fab buildings a lot of it just isn't finished, streets with no names etc.
Probably better off going to somewhere more established for tourism rather than somewhere playing catch up.

Jebel Ali is some 10-20KM out of Dubai on the Sheik Zayeed Road, easy to get from via Abu Dhabi Airport which is a lot nicer that DXB!
Dubai is a long Linear city either side of the SZ Road until you get into the old town.
It will take you some 20 mins by cab to get into the centre of Dubai (old town) from there.
Jebel Ali has IMHO the best beach in Dubai
The resort itself is real nice!
I would reccemmend it and would stay there again.
Also have a look at;
Jumeirah Bab Al Shams - Dubai Hotels - Jumeirah
This place is truly wonderful!
TBH have a look at the Jumeirah and the resorts

Jebel Ali is nothing to look at and not really a town as such more a name attached to an area in the desert. The resort has been up and running for some 5+ years and is splendid!
You are 10 mins by Taxi from the Mall of the Emirates & Jemimah Beach and the Souk Madinat and only 5 mins from Ibn Battuta Mall
which is great for food and shopping/entertainment
I prefer to be this end of town
RE food and drink, depends what you want to pay, you can get perfectly good food in the Malls for £ 5.00 per head or pay as much as you want in a top restaurant on the whole i found it cheaper than going out in London, Birmingham, Manchester.
If drinking suggest you pick up a couple of bottles of your favorite in Dubai Airport Duty Free on the way into the country, it is the norm. You can buy drink in hotels and bars/clubs, same sort of prices as UK hotels, bars and clubs, maybe a little more but not a problem. Do check that you stay does not coincide with either Eid or Ramadan ans this will make drinking and eating during the day a bit of a chore.
What you have to get your head around is that the place is just not finished, there is building work everywhere, or at least there was not too sure how the credit crunch is affecting the region. There is plenty to see and do, Jebel Ali as a resort and is well equipped with stuff to keep you busy and if you want more then hire a car or get a taxi, taxi is often best as it is easy to get lost. Avoid Aug and Sept as it can get to 50 degrees in the middle of the day and it is literally a killer. The Malls are immense, miles long and have built in cinemas, etc.
Learning to dive is cheap
If you fancy getting of the beach and having some fun you could do worse than speak to Blue Banana they do most sports and adventures and they have a good rep
http://www.bluebananaarabia.com/defa...p.asp?catId=46
oh and Wild Wadi ids a laugh (10 mins ride by Taxi)
http://jumeirah.com/en/Hotels-and-Re...d-Wadi1/Rides/
Like most resorts you will get out what you put in, there is lots to do if you know where to look and are happy to pay although the Jebel Ali resort has a lot going on in its grounds and beach.

Beyond that, he went on a desert safari which was great but there was literally nothing else there. You wouldn't go for a walk around the town for example because there isn't one or it is under construction.
Also be aware that the locals do no queue. They will just push in front of you and you will have to just suck it up unless the shop has a dedicated person to keep an eye on this. Generally these are the sorts of big chains you see everywhere else like Starbucks etc.
He felt Egypt was a much better option.

I personally found Dubai to be one of the dullest places I've ever been. OK for a couple of days' sunbathing, but not much there (amusingly, getting a taxi to either 'town centre' or 'city centre' takes you to one of two shopping malls so named). Shopping not that great (unless you like the middle eastern yellow gold - ideal if you're part of a gang) - and there are few restaurants / bars worth visiting outside of the hotels which, as posted above, are strewn approx 20 miles up the otherwise featureless coastline.
Lots of places I'd rather go on Honeymoon before Dubai. e.g. Thailand, Borneo, Sth America (various), Maldives, Galapagas etc etc).
Good luck

Personal prefference would be to go somewhere else. After a week out there, I dont think I'll go back again.

Emirates Palace Hotel Abu Dhabi | Home
Never stayed but if you get a decent deal on the place it's almost affordable! Abu Dhabi is a lovely place for a holiday. Not heard too many good things about Dubai these days though.

Personally I love Dubai.
Ive been there for a two weeks holiday for the last four years....
It does help that the other half's sister is engaged to a self made millionaire who moved out there from here 10 years ago
It does keep the costs down when we stay at his place on Jumierah islands, go on his yacht, get driven around

I am another vote for "I wouldn't want to go back there unless I had to".
Had to go out there for a days testing and as it is a long journey for just one day we booked a few days either side to do a bit of sight seeing. I really cannot see the attraction of the place.
Mauritius is ok but for islands look at the Maldives, Seychelles or one of the spice islands off Zanzibar.
There have been some other good suggestions for alternatives as well to which I would add South Africa and Tanzania.

Agree with most, wouldn't go back there except to see some friends who now live there.
There is **** all to do except go shopping or sit in flash hotels.
I defo wouldn't want to waste my honeymoon there. Africa (beach and safari combo), Carribean etc would be much better imho

Its a big world and personally I cannot see the attraction of Dubai. If it was me I would choose some of the truely great sights in the world, Christ the redeemer, Angkor wat, Victoria falls, Machu Pichu, etc and base a holliday around those.
