Default Halal Meat - Subway

I noticed tonight there was a form to vote if you would like Subway to have available Halal meat to order, I didn't really take much notice until I got home and told the missus and she was disgusted that a large corporate chain would do this and told me her reasoning.

Basically for the people, like myself, who didn't know, the method of animal slaughter to produce Halal meat is considered cruelty to livestock as it causes severe suffering to animals, the Muslim religions demand that slaughter is carried out by slashing the throat of the animal and left to bled, which can take 2 to 4 minutes.

What would normally happen is the animal is stunned with a bolt to the head or a massive bolt of electric in the same manner, both produce instant death, before slaughter.

I note it is a religious requirement, but in this day and age, shouldn't the animals welfare come first, even in death?

My bro used to work at a abattoir and he said they gave em a bolt of electricity to the head and then cut their throats and let the blood drain out for about 5 minutes.

And about muslim religions etc, i couldent give a toss about them. sorry

Pretty shocking that subway are considering this, but seeing as this country is going to be an islamic state sooner or later (just look at birth rates stats...) then I guess this was always going to happen!

It is disgusting that cruelty to animals is allowed in this country just because the government are scared to upset 'that' particular group

*Since they started opening over here. We're talking about £15 worth of trade over the years.

Halal meat disgusts me and I have no interest in, or sympathy for peoples primitive third world religion. I suppose this goes to show what corporate ****** Subway are, to those who hadnt realised?

You bunch of softies. The anmials welfare? You are killing it for food. Just get on with it. If you were trapped on a desert island would you not kill a pig for food because you cant bolt it?

Get over yourselves, have some for of tollerance. Its not like it effects you does it? Halal meat is and will be produced. Just because Subway will do it too does not make them bad people.

The subway on Edgeware Road in London is Halal. I read in the Metro this morning that dominos have changed one of their takeouts in Brum to Halal. So no Mighty Meaty!

Hang on, why are we protesting just against Subway? Surely if the practice of prepraing halal meat is so bad should we not be protesting against its availibility in general in the UK?

Oh, and if so can I also take it we are going to show a similar level of protest over the preparation of kosher meat which is in terms of the method used much the same as that of halal or do we have yet another set of double standards here?

Did anyone read the report into Kebabs recently? Ok so an 80 page report on Kebabs might not be everyones idea of a fun night in buuuut.... what was most amusing is something like 8% (or similar cant quite remember there were a lot of kebab stats!!) of Kebabs (of which 100% were Halal) contained pork meat....

Some facts on Halal before everyone gets their knickers in a twist

Halal meat - the role of the halal meat supplier

A lot of it seems predicated around respect for the animal.....I don't personally agree with the practice of not stunning the animal before administering the cut, though. However, it should be noted that this is not outlawed by Halal and that it is commonly practiced in the UK. I would want to ensure that any meat I bought had been slaughtered in such a way that reduced distress to the animal to the absolute minimum and IMHO that means the animal should be stunned.

read something about this a wile back on another forum.

Heres the story, setting the scene..

Every Saturday morning, I get up early and head into town where I buy a copy of the BJP magazine and a foot long subway, its a treat I subject myself too every weekend..

Today I go into town, first of all stop off at WH Smiths where they have no copies of BJP in, I ask at the counter, as they sometimes do, if they have any left over copies of the British Journal of Photography in the back, she goes into the back and I see her return with a magazine, I think bonus! She gets back to the till and tells me she they dont have any copies of the British Journal of Photography, but they have this.. she hands me a copy of the British Journal of Midwifery, I look at her and say no thanks love and I leave.

If this wasnt enough to set the rage in, I think to myself no worries, ill just get my subway and a news paper. I walk in subway, its 10:30am so theres no que, awesome.. Hello, can I have a foot long Bacon/Cheese melt with southwest cheese sauce, please. Despite all of the staff there being white, the girl behind the till says to me, We are under new managment and have muslim owners, we are now halal so are no longer serve haram meats (bacon or ham). Are you serious I ask, Yes, she says.. would you like Turkey instead? Okay I say..

So I leave subway rather disgruntled and pretty pissed off looking for an argument, I thought better of it though and whatever argument I brought up would just leave me sounding racist, so I got home and decided to rant at you lucky people instead.

I cannot believe this. I have a leaflet in my bag, the same family are running all of 2 out of 3 of Boltons subway restaurants and have removed Pork from their menu completely. Has this happened at other branches that people know of?

well I live in Bradford and you can't have anything but bloody halal meat everywhere you go.

morrisons etc have even had problems with muslim checkout staff refusing to handle pork products on the checkout.

what they didn't know a supermarket sold bacon before they got the job ???

did make me laugh though- the kebab survey done-- you know the "elephants" foot kebab rotating away. obviously all sold as halal etc.

turns out about 7% have pork in them

I dont eat any meat at all so its not that shocking to me. I dont have any priorities when it comes to how an animal is executed. As far as I am concerned its all bad.
I knew a guy that worked in an abattoir, he said as the cows where filing in you could tell by looking at them they knew what was going to happen.

Whats worse, Being hung up by your back leg and getting your throat cut
or
walking in single file, watching other members of the same species having there head forced into a metal cage and then having a bolt shot through there face knowing its your turn next.

Much the same if you ask me.

* I now sit back and await the torrent of abuse.

totally agree with you Tim.

only qualm I have with those being veggies: they tend to still have leather shoes, leather belts, jackets, leather car upholstry..................

personally find halal meat quite slimey to eat- esp chicken.

we are designed to eat meat- I know, because my teeth are pointy at the front for ripping meat off the bone.

they don't need to be for brocolli. It tends to give in quite easily.

Why do we have to be tolerant? I wouldn't go to saudi and expect to order a bacon sarnie in a local cafe.

It is about time we put a stop to all this crap.

Specifically:

Govt information produced in english only
English language lessons provided for those that 'no habla'
Language barrier not a viable reason for not having a job and claiming benefits
No special community groups for one race only. Communities should be all inclusive
Street signs in english only
No forced/arranged marriages
No use of Sharia law
Kids take part in one assembly (see sheffield story earlier in the week and four guys getting a beating in Glasgow as examples of islamic racism)

I'm sure i'll think of some more. It annoys the hell out of me though that many of these 'minority groups' are as hypocritical as you can get. Halal kebabs with pork in... produced by their friends so it serves them right.

The countries they come from as poor and as argumentative as you can get about a cartoon they are as bent as nine bob note. Unfortunately religous outrage doesn't seem to stretch to not ripping people off or a lack of corruption.

And before the complaints start i am not saying 'send them back' or any other racist nonsense. What i am saying is come here, fine but you fit in with us not the other way around. Next thing we'll need Polish street signs, Estonian street signs etc etc. Best way is not to start down that road in the first place (although i suspect we've already gone too far).

5t.
