Don't you have to look after kids anymore?
Rant alert!
I've just seen on the news that a kid has died after falling through ice into a lake. Very sad I agree and I don't want to detract from that, BUT!!! Locals are now calling for the lake to be fenced off / drained / filled in...er, why?!
Why not look after your kid, maybe tell them not to jump up and down on ice?
Also, locally, there's a disused quarry that's been used by motorbikes and 4x4s for at least 25 years that I know of. One person has been killed in that time, again sad. However, the HSE are now calling for access to the quarry to be closed!
nnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh

Oh ffs don't start me on the school run, I live ~300yds from a primary school!
<checks pulse>
No, I can't resist! There's a school I sometimes go past. It's a 30mph limit and surprisingly there are speed cameras there...not that they're any use as the parents park their cars OVER the markings!!!

Some parents should start to be real parents!
Yes accidents happen, always have and will, proper safeguards in place - fine - parents taking an active interest in their children and what they are doing - even better!
Definition: parent (a father or mother; one who begets or one who gives birth to or nurtures and raises a child; a relative who plays the role of guardian)
It certainly appears any fool(s) can give birth to babies and has been seen as a way of getting a house and money out of the social for a long time for certain so called parents.

You appear to be mixing two things here. There is Health and Safety and bad parenting.
I certainly was told "if you do this you'll probably die" but was allowed to wander around, go on long bike journeys, play in a quarry with French Bangers etc... without supervision. The points in the original post are more about Health and Safety.
I agree that parents these days seem to have little time to warn their children of danger and/or install a sense of morals.
