Default Insurance claim query ?

I dented a car whilst reversing on our road a while back, I pushed the door skin in on a T reg base model Megane, a bit of a tub, got the letter through to say the third party claim has been settled for £1246 ?

Surely the car wasn't worth that, will they have written it off or does it cost £1200 to replace a door ?

Would that include fixing the dent on our car, is the bloke taking the pee and claiming for other damage that was already there, going to ring them tomorrow as it seems excessive for the damage caused, I would have thought under half that to replace a door, paint and transfer the trim, less if its just a skin.

I did this when I had the Shogun to my next door neighbours car

I wrote off her V reg Fiesta, me I lost a 5mm x 25mm piece of plastic trim from around the rear light cluster

Many years ago I hit a golf in the rear door and the insurance quote came back at 750 quid and that was 22 years ago

One of my clients had someone claim against him recently, bill came to £2650. £1000 to fix the car, £1650 for a courtesy car!!!

And people wonder why insurance prices are going up!!!

You will be shocked at what a bill can come to these days.

A friend recently did a quote for my sister on a 2000 Polo 1.4, passenger front door. 3rd party claim.

Due to the dismantling, prepping spraying blending etc the quote was in the region of 1300.... and that got settled too.

Not sure why it didnt get written off, maybe the request repair, as it was sort of viable. But the price... sounds right, due to the additional painting of other panels etc.

Maybe the car was of sentimental value, and the claim was for repair and the owners trauma.

Stressed are we ?

Sadly Auto Trader has loads way over £1200, so when they get told its only worth 800 and being written off, there is their arguement.

Ten year old Megane, I wouldn't be paying over a grand for one, this was a scruffy bog spec one with a stoved in door

Its my understanding that they use a computer program to work out whether its worth doing or not. they put the job in the make of car and it comes up with the number of hours for the job

dont forget the paint materials prepping, wages, drying the use of their courtesy car all adds up.

have you got yours back i bet that was an expensive repair.

Yup, all repairs are ready worked out with allowances of hours, materials etc. Bodyshops have to quote based on these thatcham guides, unless they can otherwise justify why it should be longer.
