Obama - another Blair?

Obama - another Blair?
Just thinking today, all the hopes and dreams of a country rests on Obamas shoulders.
In the same way that we all hoped that Blair would usher in a new age, a new world, a new era in 1997 after the country had been destroyed by the Tories.
Blair failed to deliver on those hopes and dreams .... I wonder if Obama will get along better? Or, as with Blair, will the power and responsibilty of office dull his drive and desire to change?
Will the world be, ultimately, disappointed when the History Books are written on the first Black President of the USA?

Who knows, but lets give the guy a chance. He has one hell of a job ahead. Far greater than Blair had when he took over.
Im sure he will keep to his pledge of "change" but for the better or worse, time will tell

Fair play, man has been president for 7 hours, and already we are questioning his ability and future.
Shall we keep it closer to home and discuss if Cameron will keep to his word when he boots Brown out once and for all

The things is, we call the UK a democracy but is it?
They spout on about policies and spending but does it happen? NO
We then get new laws (mostly money grabbing) that we havent been promised or even heard of and if we had, theres no way on gods earth we would have voted for them.
So basically, we get fed a load of bullsh!t, they get voted in and we get rogered. The other lot say "Yeh, bad government" but in reality, they would have done exactly the same and prove us right by doing the exact same thing when they get in.
Labour, Conservative, etc are equally as bad as each other, so whatever choice we make we are shafted!

" .....after the country had been destroyed by the Tories" ??????
Are you Peter Mandelson?
Try comparing the state of this country in 1997 with the state of it right now, and then ask yourself if you might be a little blinkered as far as the Labour party is concerned.
And not all of us either voted for Blair or thought for one minute he was anything but a smarmy little git (which he still is, just richer than before).

As far as finances, international perspective, and state of the country..... better than 1997..... lol yeah right.
I reckon the price of the shares for banks 12 years ago were better than they are now

Anyway, back on topic!!
You must all remember how excited you were when Labour swept the Tories aside and promised a better land?
I'm just wondering if Obama may just be a disappointment ..... I truly think he is a great man, as blair was, but they cannot do what they want to do when the weight of state is placed upon them?

Blair as good as he seemed at the time he came in, was false from day 1.
I say sleep on it, and bring the thread back at the end of the summer, then we can all judge him a little.

I must admit, I cried a little... not tears of joy
OK, im kiddin, but I was not impressed. 12 years later, im less than impressed.
I must buy some of those blinkers PSL has.... they seem great.
Never mind, im sure they will make them for Obama too, so then you can see him in the same light as Blair pete

Blair was indeed all bells and whistles when he came in to power. But I dont think you can compare them.
Blair as good as he seemed at the time he came in, was false from day 1.

In other words they promise so much when not actually IN power - but, somehow, needing different skills when at the healm?

To answer your question: yes, the USA will be ultimately disappointed, nothing to do with his race, just that the voters seem to be under the misapprehension that the president is the one in charge, when they are pretty much nothing more than the front man! Bush's administration has done such a number on the USA that there is not much the Obama team can do in any reasonably space of time.

Yes, taking the helm also needs half decent literacy skills. Lets hope our future leaders have some, unlike the half baked drongos and morons who pontificate about the leadership qualities of other.

Firstly I think he will be a breath of fresh air to the world after the uber right wing warmongering ******** that was Bush. Secondly he has an easier job than Blair as Thatcher and her yes men never destroyed the country he has been elected to govern.
In all seriousness though his foreign policy will not just consist of declaring war on the Arabs so that has got to be a step in the right direction. It's no accident that the Israelis got their Gaza massacre in while Bush was still in power. I think the world will be a better place with Obama in power. Not sure about his domestic policies, but then I don't have to be, I don't live there
