Selling a Private Plate
We have a Private Plate on retention, might as well get rid as nobody is ever going to use it, might Ebay it, but having never done this before what is the procedure, how do you exchange money for retention cert, how do you reassure your buyer and protect yourself ?
Reg is "MU 31"

Theres a link on Pistonheads to get a price for what the plate may be worth (National Numbers).
You can put in the details and it gives a quote and then goes on the website if you want to advertise it .If the price is not enough ,you can up it to what figure you expect .I presume the company would then take care of the rest of transfering etc to purchaser .
There is a charge ,but the figure they quote is what you would receive .(It does not say what their comission is though !
It may take some of the hassle out of it for you though .

I don't know, was hoping for some opinions, don't know what the market is like at the moment.
MU 20 is advertised for £7995 on Regtransfers, similar reg but lower numbers, not sure how much difference that makes but I reckon any 2 letter 2 number combination is four grand upwards, so somewhere between 4 and 8 grand.

You could do it through a company and they sort out all the details. We had C172 CUP on my clio and got quite a bit of money - though not as much as the dealer obviously. He told us what to do and even sorted out getting us plates made up with the new number on them. Can't remember who we used now though!

Dont care !
It cost 5 quid back in the year dot, people pay thousands, the idea is you get something you want, I am not into them at all otherwise it would be on my car but if you can afford it why not.
If you buy the right one and pay a reasonable price it's an asset you can later sell when you get bored of it an possibly make a profit, so potentially spending 8 grand on something so frivolous doesn't seem so daft anymore.
8 grand is a lot of money to usm but to some its not, there are a lot of million pound plus houses round here, fifty plus pound cars, a fancy plate for your car for 8 grand isnt so bad, especially if you know you can get it back at some point, if you can afford to not have it to hand then you are ok.
Personally I think they are naff apart from the odd funny gem, RR Sports etc round here with a number plate like this are ten a penny.
