Article in Autoexpress this week. Doesn't seem like a giant leap from this to insurers insisting you have one fitted, and then cancelling/jacking up your insurance if they track you doing 75 in a 70.
Quote:
Motorists could see their insurance premiums slashed if a new hi-tech tracking device that's being trialled proves successful.
By fitting a 'black box' that receives satellite signals to your car, insurers would be able to see how often you're behind the wheel, what kind of journeys you're doing and at what time. Norwich Union says it'll mean those drivers only making short trips will pay less than someone who does long distances in rush hour traffic and is therefore more likely to have an accident.

I'm cool, but the bike is dead and insurance is a 'mare as the truck driver involved hasn't been caught up with. Only going to be able to afford to insure a scooter at this rate
D'oh just saw another thread on this and it was pointed out that it doesn't log speed, so thats a plus!

Well at least you are okay which is the main thing.

There are some nice scooters about though ?!?!

Hope they catch up with the lorry driver.

That is a plus... I was thinking otherwise I'd have to swap the black box over with my vicars car.....

If this thing is using satellite technology to track the vehicle, its going to be able to log your speed. They'll be able to see how far you've travelled in a known time, it doesn't take a genius to work that out.
Whether the technology used is going to allow real time tracking of a vehicle, or just record the start and end of a journey is what's important. If its real time updates, they'll have exact records of your speed, otherwise they'll just have an average speed, for the entire journey.
