Angry Comet Laptop Extended Warranty

well in feb 07 i bought a laptop and the salesman managed to get me to take the comet 2 yr extended warranty...

last yr i called as my integrated webcam stopped working.. they told me to contact acer as its still on manufacturer warranty. fair enuf, called, sent for repair.... everything good then....

webcam went dead again in mid december, and also noticed my battery lasts no longer than 10 mins off power, and there is a noise when closing the lid....

now that there is no manufacturer warranty, i popped in to a comet store where i bought it, guy told me to backup all my data and come back... i went home, backed up, and went back the next day.... he also made a call and confirmed that the battery was covered under the warranty...

next day , there was another person in there, he told me i have to ring support or something, and that they need a reference number... he cant take the laptop in....

xmas and new yr gone, now i called comet..
told him my battery problem - he went battery is not covered...

told him my noise when closing the lid - he went that dsnt affect performance, so its not covered...

told him my webcam dsnt work - he asked me what it says, i told him it says webcam in use by another app, and it closes, then dsnt detect cam, he goes its a software problem, not covered under this warranty...

wtf is this extended warranty for then??
i twisted the webcam and ripped off the wires and am gonna call again tomorrow, now its a feckin HARDWARE PROBLEM... yeahh

sorry for the long post, i wanted to give all details

at buying a warranty from Comet in the first place!

Wouldn't touch ANY extended warranty from ANY company IMO.

I find running the laptop over with the car tends to get it replaced!

Nor would I normally, but I'm glad a few years back, my Dad took out the one with PC World, that got well used, and they did sort stuff out. Also we took out one with Comet for a Hi-Fi, and it died not long before the warranty was up. Don't think they really wanted to give us a new one, more leaning towards fixing it, but we argued over it, and got a replacement.

It worked with a pile of sh!te Fujitsu Siemens laptop when it fooooked up again for the 5th time and out of warranty.
Wife told ins co she was loading car up with stuff before a short trip and I released the handbrake to mov the car down the drive a bit to gain access to the garage and crushed the laptop.
Ins co sent out a brand new laptop (better spec than old one too)

You lost any rights you had when you agreed to contact the manufacturer to sort the problem.

SOGA 1979 (ammended) your contract is with the retailer, not the manufacturer!

you should have got comet to replace the lappy, not accept a repair.

at best you;ll get the fobbing off of death now.

Extended warrantys... not worth p*ss

(battery, buy one of the fleabay)

I believe the exception to this is if you take it back the retailer and the retailer authorises you to return it to the manufacturer. A common thing to do with PC hardware as its often quicker and easier to send something back to the manufacturer, than use the retailer as a go between.
