As it is a Sunday, check there are no track works and bus replacements on your route which can add hours.
There's a coach from Victoria at 0900 gets in to Sheffield at 1310 for £10 if you're quick to book.

Not sure about the costs or onward links, but London-Doncaster is a lot quicker than London-Sheffield. 1hr50 to about 4hrs. Depends though, because last time I did that run on a Sunday, track works meant that travelling to Doncaster wasn't an option.

I used to get the train from Kings Cross to Huddersfield (many years ago) and it was cheaper to buy a return ticket than a 1 way????
Not sure which way the train goes to get to Sheffield as the 1 i used to catch followed the A1 - Peterbouough/ Grantham/ etc
I later found out (after a couple of years) it was cheaper to hire a class a/ b car at around £12 a day + fuel + 1 way charge (£10) and it was door to door so no waiting around

Just to let you no there isnt a direct trains from kings cross to huddersfield you have to change at leeds. if you are by any chance still up and read this tonight then your cheapest option to leeds will b booking through national expresses website which is Journey selection cheapest on there is £33.80 to leeds. Can also confirm there is no engineering work on the line tommorow that will delay you because i work for national express myself.

Think you might want to try st pancras instead of kings cross mate because to get to sheffield you will be travelling with east midlands trains i presume and the dont go from sheffield there next door.
