The Thirty Nine Steps
Just seen a trailer for a new version of this on Sunday 28th, 9:00PM BBC1. It's got the bloke that just got blown up in Spooks as Richard Hannay (Rupert Penrey Jones ). Hopefully the Beeb will of done a proper job of it. The Robert Powell version was Something decent to look forward to over the *insert appropriate religious/non-denominational term* break.

Looking forward to how the Beeb do the scenes on the Forth Bridge with a steam loco and pre-BR coaches
A few archive shots, plus Dr.Who-level sets, anyone?

Must try that one
In answer to your question; No, it was boring, predictable, formulaic, and nothing like the one Buchan wrote
I've never been able to understand why film/tv directors, producers and scriptwriters always feel the need to **** around with the plots of books when adapting them to film
If they think they can do better, that's fine, but if you're going to butcher the plot so badly, why not just go the whole hog and write something new
Oh I know why Because they know that their script would never stand up on it's own merit. So they use the reflected glory that comes from stealing somebody else's already well know title and characters, in the hope that they can sucker people into watching it, who are hoping that finally, somebody has, at last, actually made a film of a book they've always loved

Apparently it was full of inaccuracies, such as machine guns mounted on planes, cars from about 10 years after it was supposed to be set, the wrong railway carriages etc.
I didn't notice any of these, but thought the whole thing was just completely unexciting, the whole chase should have been really tense.
The funniest bit though was when there were about 100 men with dogs chasing him accross the moors. They were about 200 yards away and the seemed to be no escape. But he found a stream, walked along it for about 10 yards to hide his scent, came out the other side and they'd all disappeared!

I noticed that they had what looked like an SE5a with interrupted machine guns complete with RAF roundals years before the flying core was introduced and long before the plane existed.
