Just wondering as my ickle brother is ready to pop the question to his better half .

Just wondering as I'm not sure how you actually decide.

Do you simply decide you'll not do any better than the current partner?
Do you think "**** it, I'm old. I really should..."?
Do you wait for the "One" despite getting older?
Do you just sleep with the current one knowing that you are still looking for a better option (but they don't know that)?
Do you only fall in love once in your life and then after that it's just a case of cutting your losses?
Do you fall in love with somebody new every day?
Or something differrent?

A good way to tell perhaps is that other couples absolutely HATE you I've had a handful of offers from her so called mates.. who I'm sure are just trying to prove I'm not such a nice boy
