Default Finding out if it's a boy or girl tomorrow

My partner is 6 months pregnant, and we have been talking about this ever since we found out.

One minute we want to know then the other we want a surprise, I caved in a while ago and booked a private scan for tomorrow.

My main excuse for it was that we have just bought a house and I need to know what colours to paint the nursery.

Did you find out the sex of your kids before they were born or did you wait and have the surprise?

Any regrets either way?

I have no kids, but if I ever did I'd like to know what sex they were, hate surprises....

We knew in advance and it helped get my head around the idea before they arrived!

Just noticed your in France, I guess they do things differently over there, the hospital refused to tell us. The lady who did the scan was quite annoyed at the fact she couldn't let us know.

Saying that, the people I know that didn't want to know don't regret 'not' knowing so it's down to you at the end of the day ...

Hope all goes well!

Dave

PS: there is still a degree of uncertainty about a scan and you could still end up with a girl in a blue nursery ....
So I understand, the chance of that are quite slim though, as it's not all about the ****.

It's still a surprise whether at a pre-birth scan or at the birth. We chose to be told. Congrats

I was asked the same question. My response was something along the lines of "No, wtf would I?".

BTW they look a bit weird when they first come out, pale/grey and their heads are a funny shape... be prepared for a shock

Nope. Then again, it was 21 and 16 years ago. Sex finding (of a would-be child, I mean ) was not that much in fashion, then. TBH I would have preferred not knowing. I like pleasant surprises But I do undersand why people would like to know beforehand. One gets enough time to prepare with right presents, mother n' child room decoration scheme (pink-or -blue? type of thing), and most importantly- one's own psychological make-up for what's arriving.

Good luck with everything, Cooksie

I am against it as it gives those with cultural groups and selfish individuals with an agenda the option to not wait if it is not what they want. Obviously not an issue with the OP, just curiosity but I would wait, I did, with out first see soem evidence on the scan but not being an expert I was kept guessing.

I really have issues with anyone that isn't happy with an otherwise healthy baby due to its gender.

We didn`t find out before hand, made the whole event a bit more special I guess.

It`s more practical to know in advance I suppose, each to their own.

So on that basis you'd ban rope because some people hang themselves with it?

I didnt say ban, I said against it, nobody without an agenda will suffer and those with get what they are given, realistically it wont get banned but it may protect unborn babies, then again, if thats the case, if they are unwelcome perhaps its best they don't get born ?

I think it's pathetic that some NHS hospitals will tell you while others won't. If someone is willing to terminate a baby because it's the wrong sex they'll obviously pay the £100 to find out privately. Meanwhile everyone else has to pay up if they want to find out too.

we didn;t find out for our first and have no idea about our second (due feb). i'm not against it, we just decided it wasn't for us

cookie - paint the room white. you can add colour with pictures etc. simple. my sister found out about her first (a girl) and bought everything in pink....even the travel buggy. when her second was born (a boy), she went out and bought everything again in blue - why set yourself up for extra expense in the future when neutral colours will do the job (clothes, room, buggy etc etc) for the second, third etc etc as they're not in their early clothes that long anyway

here in china it's illegal for a doctor to tell a couple what gender their baby is likely to be - for obvious reasons. as with most things in asia though, this information can be available with cash under the table and i believe it does still go on

We had a 20 wk scan last week and the subject came up. I don't want to know and the wife has agreed to leave it as a suprise - although she thinks its going to be a boy...

We're trying to keep the names we have chosen a secret from family and that is hard enough - for now it is called wriggles.

Because we'd had soo many "scares" with the second one, my other half had

had a scan virtually once a month, including a neuchal (sp) scan.

I had my suspicions of the sex early on

the hospital refused to tell us, but how many babys with 5 appendages do

you get?

We didn't want to know (well I did but the wife didn't & I would not have been able to keep the secret). Had our little boy 2 weeks ago.

We didnt find out with our first (he is over 2 now) and wont with the second due in early March. We decided that my wife will have gone through so much effort of being pregnant (and getting pregnant !!) and having it, that its a nice surprise at the end.

And I think people saying it gives them plenty of time to paint the nursery the right colour is a bit silly. Just do it neutral and accessorise later, its not as if they will care anyway !!!

Good luck to everyone who is expecting a baby, we are all in the lucky position where we as parents can actually have children. So many cant, so it puts the question of finding out the sex into insignificance really I think....

We didn't. I don't see how it makes a difference. You'll love them whatever and it gives you the joy of picking out loads of different names. We also moved house and just painted the room unisex colours. most baby stuff seems to be cream anyway and even if it had been a girl we certainly wouldn't have gone for the bright pink clothes!

As it happened we had baby Luke delivered not quite two weeks ago.

awwww, beautiful

We did not want to know with either of ours. I had a feeling what I was expecting with each one, and was right. No idea how, lucky guess

Oh and KoT, D cut the cord when my daughter was born. His face was a picture as he did it
