So how was 2008 for you?
Positives.
I got a 12 day business trip to Oz, and managed to get the weekend at my sister in laws in Brisbane, who emigrated in 2007.
23 days in Florida with my family was fantastic fun and a great break.
Looking at my kids, they are growing up with some decent manners and morals.
Another decent pay rise, bonus and review. That's 6 out of 6 now.
Wife got a part-time job at the employer she left when we had kids. She doubled her wages and reduced her hours and is doing a fantastic job there, her managers words.
Negatives.
Having been through one "change ( redundancy ) programme in Oct 07 to Feb 08, I'm now in another.
Lost 3 staff due to costs/redundancy, all leaving this week. All will be missed, both personally and professionally.
I know it's been a strange year for many, so how have you faired?

Positives.
Inherited some money.
Took a three week road trip in the USA.
Mortgage went down.
Lost weight.
Gained a nephew.
Met a couple of awesomely great peeps from here.
Got the car remapped.
My house only flooded a few times (right now being one of them).
Negatives.
My godfather and uncle died.
My nan died.
Business wasn't too good.
Some other stuff that I don't want to go into here.
My house flooded a few times (right now being one of them).
I would say that for me 2008 has been a year of ups and downs and I won't be particularly sorry to see the back of it.

Spent 2 nights worrying about my Iceland money!
Spent the days thanking Gordon Brown for giving my money back
Labour tore up a Tory agreement on my Pension
Houses on the beach cheaper than they have been for 4 years and still dropping
Another year older
The end of the Infraction fiasco
Still have the ability to get banned
News that we are pulling out of Iraq, job done
There was no summer

Yep that just about sums up what is happening in my kitchen at the moment Usually the stream runs along at a trickle at the back of the house but at the moment due to the hideous weather we're having it has turned into a raging torrent. I went into full Flood Defcom 1 mode about an hour ago, stacked everything up, checked the sump pump was working then retired upstairs with my laptop.
Happy days

Crap.
Little or no summer, eldest got made redundant twice, uncle seriously ill, I got diagnosed with blood pressure problems, extrememly high cholesterol and glaucoma in both eyes.
Scoob cost me nearly £2000 for new head gaskets, plus some remedial welding on the heads, plus a new clutch only a year after the old one was done
It's now letting water into the passenger footwell, dunno where from, but I suspect the windscreen I had fitted about 6 weeks back
Positives? Our house in France is now worth a LOT more..........but it wouldn't sell as no-one in the UK can afford one out in Euro land any more
Youngest got in and started at Hull Uni doing chemistry.
It's the solstice on Sunday, the nights will start drawing out and the birds will soon be singing again, tra la la

Started in the worse way possible, details I won't go in to but I don't think I have ever felt the emotional pain before.
Went to New York (excuse for the pain above)
Decieded to start racing motocross again after an 11 year break
Bought a motocross bike
Went to Corsica
My nan died
More bad news, details I won't go in to
Won a race
Won another race
Went to Austria
Got a trophy
Got another trophy
Finished 2nd overall in a local championship
Bought a new motocross bike, and sold the old one
Bought the wife a motocross bike
In summary, up and down. I'm expecting next year to be a bit more stable.

Work wise its been pants. I hase come to the realisation that the company I work for don't care for the staff, and I want out.
Life wise, not bad
Moved to my own pad.
Went back to archery after a 12 year lay off and am doing rather well (5 medals from 7 comps) and shooting at european level in 2009
Just need the new car and new job and lifes sorted.

Not dead, can still get it up...
Anything else is a bonus !!
Good
Went perm at work - good move
Kids doing ok at school
Got middle one into the secondary school we wanted
went for a week in Atlanta with work
Plenty of other travel, even if only Aberdeen and London
Started Cycling to work - just passed 1000 miles
£1500 tax rebate last week
Bad,
Nothing really major
Reversed the wifes car into a Neighbours car
Clutch going on Saab
As years go, not epic but I am not complaining.

All in all, OK.
Made the FATAL mistake of not setting enough personal goals (very "middle-management", but I found it works! )
Of those goals I set, I'm now Apple-Accredited for their music packages - not something I'd intended to do, but I went for it due to some serious self-doubt in other areas.
After pretty much "acing" the qualification, it restored a lot of my faith.
Spent some quality time with the kids/family (despite the cr@p weather)
The one thing I DID learn, was that when faced with adversity, I don't panic (yes, I worry, but not panic) and sort the problem.
For next year, I've got plenty of goals, and this time I'm setting deadlines.
Onwards and Upwards - focus.

Can't complain when I see some other people's accounts of their year.
Positives....
Off on Tuesday to San Francisco for 3 days over Christmas, en route to New Zealand for 4 weeks holiday, so will get some summer after all in Jan 2009 and miss the Scottish weather. Will mean my wife gets to see her brother who lives in NZ who she misses loads.
Still in a relatively secure and decently paid job and having my efforts recognised..
Friend Helen has recovered from an aggresive breast cancer.
My own mental health improving year upon year and able to live a relatively 'normal' life nowadays (touch wood).
Remain very happily married.
Done more than my usual lazy **** efforts for charity and feel better having given something back.
Negatives.
Watching my dad finally being hospitalised due to his Parkinsons and now having to feed a once strong man his dinner is one of the tougher things I've ever had to do.
Band split up due to drummer 'making it biggish' with his other band (however a good 2008 for him).
Lost a friend at 42 to Lung Cancer. RIP Ian.
Hope 2009 is good to all on Scoobynet and those who have struggled through 2008 have an easier time in 2009.

Negatives:
My fiance lost his Gran at the start of the year, whom I classed as my 3rd 'nan'
we had to make the decision to have our dog put to sleep
Same with the cat 6 mths later
My health continuing on it's ever present nose dive...long story
'dinking' my other halfs BMW whilst he was abroad on business
Positives:
We gained our 2nd nephew
We got a new pup in November
Spent 2 glorious weeks in California
My dad getting the all clear, 5 years after major surgery etc for oral cancer
Celebrating 10 years with my lovely other half
And something which made the year a bit more pleasanter for me.. seeing my all time #1 band in concert

Mixed! Massive highs and massive lows that I'm not prepared to disclose on here.
Still, I'm doing well in what should be a stable job (touches wood) and, for the moment, have my health so I can't grumble!
I hope 2009 brings people what they're looking for!

Some of the highlights of 2008
Been promoted twice this year, now in a very secure and well paid job.
Paid off lots of debt
Bought a nice house.
Fulfilled a long time goal - multiple properties and being a landlord.
Passed my motorbike test.
Bought a sports bike.
Spent a week in Croatia meeting other halves family.
Spent two weeks in Spain with my entire family.
Spent a week in Sri Lanka for Dads wedding (best man)
Have a baby on the way (6 months gone)
Was best man at my Brothers wedding.
Have been told quite a large inheritance is coming our way.
Some of the lows
Selling the scoob.
Other half lost a pregnancy - knocked me for six for quite a while.
Lost a member of family on my partners side.
So on the whole a good year

2008 has been not too bad for me. A lot of growth and development has taken place in various aspects of my life, including my personal experiences.
I gave up smoking in 2008. Well done, me!
My girl passed GCSCs in flying colours.
My boy has continued to enjoy his work, and got on with it sincerely.
Family in India are ok, younger sister got married.
Work doing super, I developed two new projects that I am very happy with.
No major negatives at all. TBH I don't like looking back at few minor punctures here and there. I'd rather move on with positivity.
So, all good so far.

Its had its highs and lows.
Started 08 off sick and in the Caribbean, returned to the UK and had surgery on my arm.
During time off for recovery discovered mum had cancer.
Returned to work after 6 months off, reduced hours.
Found out a close friend had cancer.
Have lost 6 stone in weight, have been diagnosed with more problems with my arm, have 2 lovely Malamutes now, mum is having radiotherapy after she had chemo... previously refused both.
Still with the missus, 6 years in March, sold the Scooby....
Been quite dramatic really, and 09 looks to be much the same.
Bring on 2010 lol

Very strange year.
Good
Made cracking money before the market went bust
Resigned from the wage slave trade & began to grow my business's
Bad
Few issues that i dont want to get into
Lost a very special friend due to my carry on & inability to behave
Not much there compared to a few of you not the worst year though, 2009 will be a challenge.

Been a good year and it was well needed.
3 month holiday to 7 different countries.
Seeing a woman I think the world off
Cut down on drinking which I feel alot better for (minus this weekend lol)
Started to enjoy work alot more than the last few years
Bad? Not entirely sure to be honest. I try to not dwell on stuff when it doesnt go well for me and the positives so far this year have been good enough for me to forget many bad things.

Good things
Had some great sex
Downside
Still hoping to meet someone...
Not really, pretty decent 2008, despite breaking my back on Xmas eve last year - at least the year got better as it went on.
I think doing this at the same time next year will be an eye opener
