Anyone hired out a cottage/converted barn for holiday?
Looking to hire a place out for New Year - just me and the lady.
I'm really after someone who has done this and can recommend where they stayed.
I'd like it to be somewhere in England or Wales and to be near pubs which can easily be reached on foot.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Nick

Did it in the Summer on a chicken farm, was great, was a converted barn, right next to the farmer's house, had ducks and peacocks roaming around the place! That was in a remote part of Cornwall. Might be tricky to get anywhere on foot in the winter though if it starts getting icy!

Thanks for the replies.
Spent a week in cornwall during summer and was not thinking of going back again - just yet..
Was thinking more like Cotswolds, Wales, Lake District etc.

We stayed in Fowey.
Apparently it's pretty busy over Xmas and there are a few pubs open. We stayed right in the centre (tiny place) and pubs are 30 seconds away.

We go away to a cottage every New Year - going to N Wales this year. We've been to: Lakes (x2), Cotswolds (x2), Northumberland (last year), Scotland, Norfolk (best cottage we've stayed in at Coltishall), N Yorks (bizarrely the friends we go with now live 2 miles from the first cottage we stayed at)
Best advice I can give is make sure the bloody place has central heating!!! If you go away at New Year, it's ALWAYS cold and a cold house just puts a damper on the stay.
You are leaving it VERY late now and the best places will be gone (we book in June and even then New Year dates are booked). Don't just look for places for two, there are 4 of us and we always look for places that can accomodate 6.
Touristy places will be half shut at this time of Year, and when you do go out the weather will play a BIG part of what you can do - we love walking so pick places with scenery... if you want a quiet place just to curl up in, then this won't be a problem... but you need things to do during the day or you go stir crazy.
When you are choosing somewhere you can usually tick a box that has "pub nearby" in the options. The last place we stayed at had one virtually opposite (we always have that as a criteria for picking somewhere)

Oh, if it was me - I'd do the Lakes again, Stunning place to go, and if it snows, it's even better if you know how to drive
We've stayed in Bowness (I know it very well as I have family there) and in a little village on the northern edge of the Lakes (with a pub 100 yards away... )
You can get out to anywhere and the views are stunning, pubs are great and it's the only time the damn place ain't rammed with tourists

we stayed here end of Oct and it was amazing. Hot tub, no neighbours as such, laid in the hot tub drinking champagne and look at the stars.
