I think that David Davis is an honourable man and would have introduced some good common sense into real policies, and would have generated a good deal more support for his party, for the best reasons.

No word of a lie.
When he was leader of the tories he visited Haverfordwest - unknown to us a the time. We had just paid in some money when my daughter declared she needed the toilet and we weren't quite out of the woods in the potty training department. So time was a factor.
We hot footed back to my office a short distance away to use the loo when round the corner comes Michael Howard with his arm outstretched looking for some mug to shake his hand. My wife didn't know what else to do except stop and shake his hand. I did the same and Howards clearly wanted to talk to us about the short comings of the current government and who we were voting for.
With the local conservative MP, Michael Howard and the local press I said "I'm terribly sorry we can't stop and chat, my daughter needs the loo". And with that we pretty much barged passed them all.
I felt quite bad about near enough blanking the leader of the opposition but the wife turned to me and said "Who was that then"?!
