Some of the contract couriers are really a front for dhl and half the price. For example:

DHL lost a Rs Cosworth head of mine I sent once then had to pay me out for it £500! Then it arrived back at mine 5 weeks later and never heard anything else!
On the whole they ain't to bad and even took a pacrel for me to a chap on here being a set of twin Subaru fans to the Isle of Man a few months ago but arrived a ok!
They always use there own vans unless a van is in for a service then they will have a hire van! and Yes suppose to be in uniform!
Sometimes though they contract work out!

I had an odd experience this morning with them (i think!)
Bought an item on Fleabay yesterday on buy it now with free p+p. It's a large heavy item and was only £20 so was expecting standard parcels.
Really really attractive women knocks on my door this morning at 11am, says DHL delivery for me of said item. She's dressed in casual clothes and driving a Vauxhall Meriva family car. Item just has printed sheet on the front saying address, couple of barcodes and DHL on it.
Seems weird to send via an expensive courier for a £20 item with free postage and the woman delivering looked like she had nothing to do with DHL!

I work for the DHL group of companies
Vans arent always marked.
They do use agency drivers
Agency drivers tend not to always be kitted out in dhl uniform
There are 2 side, DHL Express and DHL Home
If you send a parcel to a home address then it is delivered by DHL home who tend to be owner drivers and so unlikely to have a uniform, in fact a lot of them use their cars for making deliveries.
Generally a good service, however if you have a problem it can be difficult to solve (even though Im part of DHL I hate having dialog with them as they are not the brightest / most helpful)
Costs for me is very cheap (part of being the same group) and despite what you may read it doesnt stand for
Drop It
Hide It
Lose It

Working for parcelfarce, we know them as
D##K
Heads
Ltd.
No seriously, we used to be franchised to them, vans were unliveried, but drivers uniformed. DHL home was known as JD Williams, and the parcels were usually delivered by School Run Mums, earning a few bob on the side.

also just because a van is liveried does not mean it belongs to the courier company.
we use TNT and alot of the vans are owner-driver but they have to get the van stickered up anyway..not that they all do.

We use DHL a lot at work, mainly documents. Don't think they have many problems, unlike me, who's spent two days getting DHL EasyShip software working again after the latest updates. Their 3rd party tech support is patchy to say the least, some guys are really helpful, whereas one guy wouldn't even speak to me without the account number(s). Their delivery/pickup service is a lot better than the bunch of muppets that run the UPS franchise here.

I have used parcel2go for sending items I have sold via the bay of thieves and I chose DHL ...... I wasn't sure about phoning the p2g number, so tried looking the alternative up on SAYNOTO0870.COM - Non-Geographical Alternative Telephone Numbers (a very useful tool when you want the local number to national chain ) and the p2g number is listed as part of DHL ?
Great service BTW
I want a delivery woman like that round this area
