'Quite good'

Understatement of the year ! Well, understatement of the year 2001 !!

Outstanding Anxiously awaiting 'The Pacific' by the same team next year.

It was magic. Good old Yank schmaltz, but they do it so well. Look out for Barry's 'fake' brother from Eastenders!

Watched it when it first came out.

Barstwerds kept me awake on many a night. Suppose thats what you get for living over the road from the film set!!!! Upside is I saw most of it being filmed

The amount of ammo they went through was horrific something like 700k rounds.

Finished watching it about 3 months ago...... I'd say the best WW2 series ever made. Really got me thinking about how bad things really were and also why my grandad never liked to talk about it.

If you already have it on SD DVD, I wouldnt bother getting it on Blu Ray aswell. I watched most of it last week upscaled onto a decent plasma and it was superb

Yes, but it only costs £18-£20 for the standard DVDs. My point is that BR doesnt represent value for money: more a chance profiteer.

Band Of Brothers - Blu Ray - zavvi UK

£35

Pretty good price considering.

The gap between BluRay and DVD is reducing, and will continue to do so as DVD is gradually phased out.

DVDs were a good example. They were cheaper to manufacture than a VHS cassette (anyone remember those? ). and at the time that I am talking about, virtually all were cheap transfers without any extra features (most referred to the VHS cassette in the copyright warnings...) and they were sellling for double the price of a tape. HD DVD interests me, but Id sooner not subsidise the market this time around.

Thumbs up

great series, one of he best dramas let alone WW2 dramas ever made.

It gives real insight into war and what it is really like and just how brave and selfless the men where who fought.

If you do not have the box set - buy it and watch it is my advice.

we watch it about twice a year i recon, great, riveting viewing.

£17.99, but if you want better sound then you don't need the BluRay, the R1 US version had DTS which I managed to get for £18 a few years back

its the best piece of tv i have ever seen, me and the lads regually have bob evenings, with a crate of french stubbys and some lucky strikes and watch the whole thing from start to finish, people drift off around the jew episode, but wake up again when they get to hitlers palace.

Mine is in a tin, with DTS, and was £18 a couple of years back. US R1 is the only way to go for SD on this title, unless you wanted the gimmicky R3 'military bag' packaging.

Absolutely terriying hearing MG42s open up on a decent surround system.

Soooooo glad I wasn't of that generation and I reckon the series has given later generations a whole new level of respect for those who took part.

Bizarre coincidence but I borrowed the box set from a mate yesterday and have just watched the first disc tonight. Then I logged on and saw this thread spooky or what.

Any way two episodes down and it looks good so far.

It is superb, although it doesnt do us any favours as a country. The Americans barely acknowledge that we were there, apart from the odd snide remark. They even gloss over their Market Garden failure whilst blaming us. We took the bridge at Arnhem; they didnt break through and support us.

Well.... Intelligence utterly failed: there were clear signs of Panzer divisions in the area. The RAF refused to drop the paratroopers over the town due to flak, and it was a British Armoured Division rolling up the road (30 Corps)

Apart from that, your criticsm was spot on
