Default Hit and run...

Last night I was in bed (11;05pm work in the morning) and I was rudely awoken by a loud bang,I looked out of the window and saw a car at a strange angle across the road just down from my house.
It was near my car,but closer to a neighbours across the road, which I presumed it had hit.
The driver got out, looked around, then got back in and attempted to drive off,at which point he impacted on my f/n/s wing.
I ran down stairs and outside but he had moved off,so I ran back in to get my keys(if I'd have run down the road I would have caught him...damn).
By the time I came back out neighbours were telling me where he'd gone.
I drove off after him with a weird grinding noise(his lost wheeltrim).
He stopped just down the road from the incident and I saw him leave the car and run down an alleyway.
I phoned the Police and waited by the car, they turned up 20 mins later, then a dog car 5 mins after that.
The dog couldn't find a trace or whatever so they left.
The thing I found amusing was the fact that the culprit took the time to lock the doors ,leading myself and the Police to believe it not stolen.
They gave me an accident report form and were having the car rcovered when I left.
I recognise the car from around and this was re-inforced by when the police officer told me the owner lived local,in fact not far away at all.
3 or 4 witnesses, with 1 seeing him driving erraticaly prior to impact.
There is a pub at the top of my road,so I'm presuming he's come out of there a bit jolly, hit my car and panicked, but he remembered to lock it up .
Turned out the bang was when he hit my car the first time.
Luckily my wheel took the brunt of the impact, such was the impact that his steering became damaged with one wheel only steered the other stuck at 45*,hence him having to dumpthe car.
Damage to my car isn't tood bad,the wing and some bumper damage.
I drove it to work this morning and only had an issue round corners at any speed.
Insurance.....my excess will cover it so I'll get it done myself.
I'll post pics later.

sorry to hear the news. Lets hope the cops get him.

With your damage I would get it checked. I had a nissan bluebird turbo back in the day, and whilst stationary a car hit mine on the front offside wheel, suffered wing damage and bumper damage. The guy who did it, said he had a mate who did car bodywork so would I be happy with him sorting it. I agreed to that (only young) and when I got the car back it loked spot on. However a few weeks later whilst taking a right hand turn (not at speed), I was surprised to see my front wheel bouncing off down the road in front of me

The plot thickens...it seems that he made contact with 3 other vehicles in a line prior to impacting with mine which scrubbed off a lot of his speed and in fact it looks like he never actually impacted on mine very severely.
That would explain the lack of damage apart from the wing on mine.
There are no marks on my alloy wheel which I would expect considering the damage he did to his steering.
The third of the 3 cars has similair damage to his own as in the broken steering due to wheel to wheel contact, looks like that's the one that got most of the damage, still doesn't make me feel any better .

You dont need to prove who was driving. Immobilise the vehicle by letting down / puncturing the tyres.
