#1
Hi,
I'm doing a quarry sprint this weekend (Mk11 Escort wi dry-sumped pinto)and can get some rallycross tyres(wide cut pattern) for nowt.Trouble is they have been lying for about 10 years. Are they ok or are they rubbish?
Cheers,
SD.

Take a look at them and see if they are cracking around the sidewalls or at the base of the tread. Rubber does perish (ever seen an old elastic band? ) but a lot depends on how they've been stored.

The rubber of the tyres will have hardened over this period of time and will provide less grip than when the tyres were new. The rubber will be more likely to crack than previously, but at the price .....

Check they are still flat across the profile. I once put on a tyre which had been sitting around for a while and it bowed out like a motorcycle tyre after a few miles.
Had to drive from Aberbeen to Edinburgh at precisely 37mph - which was nice
