The American version is out for download as it aired last night. I haven't watched it yet, but it was written by David Kelley (who writes Boston Legal) so it should be good...

I watched the original pilot episode of the US one and it wasn't too bad. I thought Colm Meaney was a fairly good choice for Gene Hunt. After the pilot they had a bit of a re-cast and changed things up, Harvey Keitel was cast as Gene, which could prove rather interesting, and I think Gretchen Mol is meant to be Annie Cartwright.

Yes, it's not a wind up. Also Michael Imperioli aka Chris from The Soprano's is Ray Skelton.
I'm about 3/4 of the way through the episode and I'm quite impressed, it's better than the previous pilot episode, they are actually using more dialog from the UK version than they previously did, along with some scenes. I wasn't sure on Harvey been a good match for Gene, but so far, so good.

I've never managed to sit through an entire episode of the original "The Office", it just makes my skin crawl (I know that is probably the aim), and I've not seen the US remake so can't really comment, however, the UK series lasted for two seasons and a special, as they wanted to end on high, from what I recall the US one is on it's fifth season.
Obvious LOM has been americanized, which will obviously change some aspects, some of the "humor" might be lost on us as we have a different sense of humour, but from the first episode, it looks fairly good. Question is, will they run it for just two seasons or will it go on for more. I'd not be shocked if they did run it for longer, probably by dropping Sam and introducing someone else.
