Silly stupid kids...
I left work late tonight but had a blinder of a bike ride home. The total lack of wind was great, I matched my personal best and I was taking it easy Plus the quieter roads relieving the waiting in traffic.
That's the good bit.
By the time I get to the last road to my village it's basically full dark (as near as), the sun has gone down and I'm riding with full lights on.
Vaguely in the distance I can see this black blob on the road in front... when a car goes the other way it shows up a cyclist wearing nothing but black clothes on a completely unlit bike
I put the pedal down and catch up as quick as I can, get behind this school kid on his Argos full sus MTB special with NO FECKING LIGHTS ANYWHERE.
I start shouting at him to get some bloody lights but he can't hear me! and Why????
'COS THE DOZY FECKING IJEET IS CYCLING IN THE DARK WITH NO LIGHTS, AND WEARING BLOODY HEADPHONES!!!! On a completely unlit stretch of country road!!!
ARGH!!!!!
We go through the lights and I sit behind him, protecting him (unknown to him ) from all the traffic whizzing past. Once it's clear, I pull up alongside and shout "BUY SOME BLOODY LIGHTS!!!"
He damn near jumps off the bike in fright, and quietly replies "I've got some"
"PUT THE THINGS ON THEN!!!!! you complete and utter gob****e..... mumble, mumble
He stops, gets off the road (thank God) and the last I see of him is him finally fitting the lights he had packed in his rucksack.
I don't know whether to be pleased I took the time to help the dozy wazzock out, or despair at the utter, utter lack of common sense shown.
On a cheerier note my neighbour pulled up behind me when I got home and commented on how incredibly bright my lights were, so I'm pleased that they are the right ones for the job

You were avoiding the swear filter on both threads so IMHO that's either taking the P or trolling. You're old and wise enough to create a thread without the need for swearing however hidden. This site is visted by family users who don't need to see such in thread title. My suggestion is to chill a bit before posting
As to "ghey" - its late and I've had beers. Might try to think of something more suitable in the morning...

I prefer not to wade through loads of rubbish & to infract people left/right/centre. Alcazar had made his decision to leave, fair enough, but then the thread was taken over. I would prefer that his reason to depart was not clouded by these people's different rants.
He has the option to object to those infractions via the appropriate routes but I can quite understand that if he feels he is being got at then he may not want to return. Personally I think that is a shame

Imho, being a mod is a thankless task, whatever decisions they make, someone will say it's wrong. They deserve a beer as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure I'll disagree with their decisions at some point, but more power to their elbows.
I helped out a mate running a BBS in the good olde days for a couple of months when he was hospitalised, friggin' nightmare. No wonder he was ill!
As for the OP's original topic, I'm a fan of bright lights being used by cyclists, it gives you something to aim at.

Sorry PTMW, Never got a chance to read page 2 of Alcazar's thread, vaped before I got there
You've always done a sterling job IMHO
Sorry to see Alcazar go, however I totally empathise and am saddened to see what NSR has become

PTMW - If I'd minded about the thread title it would've been a complaint in the appropriate forum, and you were dead right about filter avoidance.
The title was tongue in cheek if the subject matter was not.
I've been asked how much I spent on my lights and have realised that it came to £142 in total, just for the lights - it's no wonder I'm so easy to spot!
However, you don't have to spend anywhere near this amount to be seen properly. I just need extra bright front lights for the unlit bridleway and I'm paranoid about being rear-ended (fnar, fnar)

I collared a middle aged bloke at a junction, was in the car stopped to his right and wound the window down and just said that he might like to purchase a set of lights, ten quid or end up dead, not much of a choice, he looked at me like I was a car driver and colunt possibly understand the cyclist.
On a bike, the more garish and well lit you are, the better chance of the dozy, distracted, tired, ignorant, selfish or just those who were looking the other way seeing you.
As for wearing headphones, is listening to some music that important, ok if you aren ton the road but its like giving up 50% of your available faculties, I just cant do it, I cant do without my rear view mirror either.

On a similar subject - if you have a bike, for Gawds sake make sure your lights are up to the task, as the clocks are changing in a couple of weeks.
