Any wine connoisseurs???
I'm having a bit of a party and of the guests I'll have, about 30 are wine drinkers.
I know F all about wine, so what should I buy so it doesn't look like I've gone out and bought the cheapest...... even though I have
I'll need white, rose & red I guess but how much do you recommend for a decent 7-8 hour party?
Major thanks in advance
Rob

It's probably worth going to a wine merchant like Majestic. They will be able to give you advice on what to buy relative to your budget, and you'll probably learn a bit about the wine, so you'll sound like you know what your talking about at the party. Also, they can supply wine chillers and ice, so it'll look proper posh at your party.
If your going to get pretty trashed (which it sounds like you will in 7-8 hours) don't waste money on having good wine all night. Start with the good stuff, then move onto the cheaper stuff as no-one will be able to tell
Have fun

Hardys is a nice wine, they do a very nice red!
Nice bit of chablis , for a white wine...or sanceer (i think thats spelt right, pronounced, son-sair) that is lovely, about £8 a bottle,
blossom hill rose white zinfandel always works well for me! others id recomend are temprinillo red or rose, very nice drinkable wine! A nice Rioja,(red)
savion blanc, not always the most expensive either , price does not always indicate good wine!
Failing all else, just get some grates of Lambrini!!! the rose one will go down a treat with the ladies!!!!
i agree with 1033YL74 though, start with the good stuff, as people tend to just swollow it when they are drunk! thats when its time to get out the Lambrini!! lol And the majestic place sound cool, we have on in MK but ive never been , always knew a little about wine as my ex dad-inlaw runs an off-licence! And my husband is a big wine lover!
Hope some of this helps!
enjoy ur party!!! xx tracy xx

Pop to your local boozer and ask what their popular drinks are.
At the first pub I ran the most popular white and rosé's where Blossom Hill. We'd shift 60 bottles of Zini alone on a quiet Friday night. Our most expensive, but second best sellling white (which wa s also my favourite) is Montana Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
Blossom Hill is a safe bet and tesco normally discount if you buy in quantity, but as previously mentioned, Majestic is your friend. Recently, however, I've noticed that Blossom Hill is being out sold by Echo Falls. The rosé is a little sweeter (compared to BH), but I think it's easier to drink.
If you're just after quantity over quality, then Iceland do 3 for £10 on various varieties.
I find that red wine depends on the season and if you're eating. In summer I'd go for a light bodied choice. But now it's getting colder I'd go for something a bit more fuller-bodied which will warm the throat. Again, pop to your local boozer or Majestic, and ask them what they'd recommend to go with whatever food you are serving. A steak will be better accompanied with one variety of grape than say a salad. I've always enjoyed a glass of Rioja Grand Reserve with a fillet steak, but if eating chicken I prefer a lighter fruity flavoured red.

For a dry white go for a White Rioja. Most people are a bit confused at first as they always associate Rioja with red, but the white is equally as good and makes a nice change from the usual.
Should be able to pick up a decent one for about 7 -8 quid a bottle.

30 peeps over 7 hours would be at least a bottle each, with non-drivers possibly even more. So say 3 or 4 cases but I guess some people will be bringing a bottle?
As said have a chat with Mr Majestic. Unless you are wealthy £6 a bottle should be fine. If you pass Sainsburys they do a nice own brand Claret at £4.67. Majestic Louis Jadot Beaujolais is very drinkable. Beaune and Fleurie are nice reds but start to get pricey. I'd avoid Riojas as I think they add too many chemicals but others will disagree I'm sure.
For White just don't get anything too sweet and keep it chilled. Always have a couple of reds open and ready to pour.
Majestic will loan you free glasses which have the edge on plastic cups
If it's a special party then you could always have a special welcoming drink. I would suggest a Champagne cocktail being a glass of champers with a dash of brandy and (I think) a sugar lump in the bottom with a dash of angostura bitters (check recipe!!)
I'll be happy to collect any unused bottles to help you clear up

8 hours on chateau neuf ????? hahahhah i'll be in a coma !!!
if it was me, i'd go down the Alsace route, some great wines from that region, including, pinot gris, pinot noir, and my favorite, gewurztraminer (a slightly lychee sweetish wine great with spicy nibbles)
these are all light and refreshing, with the pinot noir being almost a rose tint.
as the evening draws in, get the on some great Argentinian Malbec (my wine of choice)
if in doubt, as suggested above, pop into a wine merchants and ask them.
there are 1000's of types of hidden wines around !! good luck and report back on what you get (and what they taste like, if you can remember!!!)

Why not order from somewhere like Laithwaites? They do decent intro offers, the wine is very drinkable, there are discount codes littered all over the net and they deliver it to you which saves all the hassle of lugging it around.
Go through Quidco as well for £11 cash back.

For good value stay away from sancerre and get a Sauvignon from the Loire Valley, same area many good wines at half the cost, Tesco have had a good one over the last few months. For really good value get new world wines from countries that specialize in certain grapes. Chile for Sauvignon or Pinot noir, Argentina for Malbec, Austria for Grunier Vetliner, (although austria is not new world). By sticking with countries that excel at certain grapes you have a better chance of picking a good one as very poor examples rarely actually make it to the UK. I personally would never buy Jacobs Creek/ hardys etc. Its mass produced rubbish totally against the spirit of winemaking and very unimaginative. If you want to go Spanish try some Ribera del Duero, one of the best regions in Spain and so much more interesting than Rioja.

Hm, to impress them you are going to need, champers, reds, whites also would advise on some desert wines if you really want to impress, will also get people **** faced, maybe a couple of bottles of port (that I do know about).
Budget for £1500.....
