Book prices..............grrrrrr
My youngest just started at Hull doing chemistry.
He's now got as far as being told what books he needs, four so far, total cost around £100!!!
I could almost go for it if paperbacks weren't around £5 each now, and if even ONE of his books was a hardback as all mine were when I was at Aston, but no.....they are all softbacks. I've checked e-bay, but none of them available except new, and the uni no longer has a s/h bookshop.
It seems that people just want to get a bite at the student's "huge" income stream
Only last week he's been told that if he brings a TV to hall, other than as a monitor for computer/X-box etc, he'll need his own license. What mean B*stard changed the law as it used to be in halls: one license covers all?
If he were in a rented house with one tenency agreement, he'd need one license

How about asking students who have finished the 1st year or students later on in the same course 
When I was at uni most books were "recycled" this way.

Al, as midlife says, you usually get your books from the previous years students. Always worth asking or looking on the notice boards.

I failed at Hull Uni - this could've been due to the nightlife.
If your youngest mentions "The Bev Road Run" get a bucket ready
I did the short one and took 2 days to recover.
I was in the main bar in the Union when the Rugby Club came in from the big run... most of them were naked.
As above though, you should be able to tap graduates and the like to get the books 2nd hand

I was born and bred in Hull......a long time ago LOL When were you there ?
In The East End of London we had the "Mile End Run".. 11 pubs with a pint in each LOL
We were supposed to do it as a 3 legged race with a mate

'84 at Uni and various time afterwards... Had a mate from Poly who lived out at Withernsea - the founder of Hull, Hell & Happiness (the illustrious fanzine that I contributed to a few times... I had a press pass for Boothferry Park for a couple of seasons thanks to that
) So I going up for home games until '90God I feel old now.
