Blind Dates
(not the tv show featuring Cilla Black).
As I was on the way to post a letter on Friday, Nikki, a good friend of mine stopped me in the street.
She started telling me that her friend had set her up on a blind-date and she was obliged to return the favour.
The only person I could think of dropping in it.. sorry, I mean volunteering, is my mate Danny who is newly single (and desperate - bordering on stalker material).
I can't wait to see Danny on Sunday to tell him what I've set him up for
Anyway, has anyone been on a blind-date? What was it like? What should I tell him to expect?

A mate of mine spectacuarly failed to cop off with a girl, so set me up for a blind date with her (the old "if someone else fails, it'll make me feel better" ploy)
Kind of back-fired for him

Years ago my friend set us both up with a double blind date. The blokes were awful so after about an hour we went to the loo together and legged it away out of the back door of the pub

I had a couple of blind dates when I was single af few years ago.
The first 1 was a disaster! The second 1 went very well
Just tell you mate to be himself, they'll either get on or they won't!

Never.
I think it will be very painful for my mindset to spend time with someone, and pretend to be nice, after discovering that they are not the one who I would like to be my friend, guide, philosopher, or even a foe! I'd rather know a bit about them, before going on a blind date.
It must sound a bit "meh" to some; the ones who know that I come from a country of arranged marriages LOL. But, in Rome, I ought to speak Roman, if you understand. However, my two British friends have been on a blind date a few times. They seem to come back with all sorts of feedback. Some good, some bad. One of them ended up finding the light of her life via blind date
Tell your mate( or yourself ) to expect nothing. Just appear recklessly on the date If they get on like a house on fire, great! If not, put it down to experience. Your mate may be able to satisfy his short term goal , if not long term objective, who knows.

I think I should get Nikki to warn the unlucky lady that Danny is becoming more and more frustrated on a daily basis since getting dumped a couple of weeks ago and he'll only have short-term satisfaction on his mind!

I went on one once. Couldnt help staring at her teeth....The poor lassie was buck-toothed to a degree I had never imagined possible. Her gob was all wired up with braces and stuff to sort the teeth, so she occasionally dribbled a bit while taking.
Poor girl was obviously very self-concious about it, but she was also dull as dishwater personality-wise.
There wasnt a second date.

I went on a blind date once. I met her and thought "Jumping zombie Jesus". SHe was ****ing hideous
Anyway, I went to the toilet in the bar and set the alarm on my phone to go off 5 minutes later. Sure enough the alarm went off and I made out it was a phone call to tell me a mate had been run over and I had to go to the hospital.
I think I might be going to hell.

Oh God. I've just remembered my FIRST blind date!
My brothers girlfriend phoned up asking if I wanted to go on a blind date with her best mate. I said yes... I was 15 and this was the FIRST time any girl had ever asked.
Bizarrely my brother phoned just after, asking if I could tell his girlfriend he didn't want to go out with her any more. (he'd joined the RAF and left)
So, I go down to meet his (now) ex- and her mate.
Didn't much like her mate but fancied the pants of her! Then told her my brother didn't want to go out with her any more. Only to find out she was only going out with him so she could catch sight of me!
Went out with her for 18 months.
Found out he was stinking liar as well... always bragging about him and her in bed.

Chap I worked with asked me to go out with some biddy so that he could have a date with the girl he fancied, so me being a good chap said yes. There's always a hope so fingers x'd but turns out my date was a munter ( ).
Point of the story is that my mate was "socially inept" and whilst we were all chosing food, he was verbally budgeting our choices to such an extent it was totally embarassing for me, my date and the girl he wanted to impress (in a Chinese in Camberley!). I had to tell him quiely to shut up and I ended up covering the bill!
