Red face Monster Spider on the loose!

"THIS giant spider skin has left workers at an oil refinery terrified.

The skin belonged to world’s largest spider – and now staff fear the deadly creature is on the loose in their workplace.

The goliath bird-eating spider, which grows up to 12 INCHES long, shed the skin after becoming too big for it.

Danger lurking ... the refinery

Danger lurking ... the refinery

It is now feared the rat-sized creature is prowling around the ConocoPhillips plant in S****horpe, Lincs.

One worker said last night: “The skin has really creeped me out. I keep thinking the spider is scuttling about.”

The South American spider, a type of tarantula, has fangs and poisonous leg hairs. Its bite could prove fatal to the sick or elderly.

No one knows how it got into the refinery."

Looks like the bugger that was scuttling around the Buncefield refinery a couple of years ago...

Hmmmmmmmmmm, that refinery is over 20 miles from Scunny, actually near to Immingham and nearer to Grimsby than Scunny

I wonder what else they got wrong?

Big shovel, bang as hard as you can over its head, Then cut the ugly f*cker in half with the sharp end for good measure.

Mind you its not the big ones that are nasty. Its the one the size of a 50p piece that are the nasty buggers. Funnel Web and Red back spring to mind.

Arachnids and other arthropods don't shed their skins because they get too big for them. The exoskeleton is rigid and prevents growth. Once it is shed, the arthropod "expands" while the new exoskeleton is still soft.

lol @ naive

I've seen more big spiders in their natural habitat than i care to remember.

When you've had something similar drop on your back as your navigating the jungles of Belize you tend not to like them any more. The hit it as hard as you can with whatever you have treatment is more than appropiate.

Besides I'm sure if one of these buggers crawled into your garden where your kids were playing (if, of course, you have any) it would get the same treatment!!

I cant understand how someone can have a pet they have to feed with live food like this !

I think its really cruel ... and before you say it, at least in "real" life the mouse would have a chance ..

Uni friends of mine had a couple of pythons that they fed live mice to... I watched once. I didn't know whether to be creeped out or stunned.

How exactley would you say the spider comes across a meal in 'real' life then

- maybe it catches its prey with a bow an arrow

I ****ing hate spiders too.

So whats the truth? Conoco Phillips is immingham, not Scunny. Or was it meant as Corus in Scunny.

I hope it's the former the bastid thing is in, othjerwise I'm hunting with a stake tonight

I'm with DD, the devils creation and would rather be infested with flies than have 8 legs crawling around.

(But I am a terrible arachnophonic)
