Visiting Glasgow??
Gonna book a hotel in Glasgow for a long weekend. My plan is to use it as a base point so I can travel around the local area.
Can anybody recommend me places to visit with a 2 hour drive max?
I was thinking Oban but thats all I can think of.
also somewhere to go just incase its pisses it down

Depends if you've been before and what you are after. Tour the borders from there or as you say head North. from Glasgow you can make Loch Ness and Urqhart Castle or Loch Lomond shores and Balloch shopping.
Of course go east and have a day in edinburgh too if you like.

Look at Perth.
2 Hrs is well within all the areas of interest.
Edinburgh easy 2hrs. Glasgow 1.5 hrs, Aviemore within 2hrs, Oban just over 2.5hrs Loch Ness 2.5 hrs, stay in the Jarvis Hotel - really good rates - book early,
Stirling Castle, Blair drummond safari park, Edinburgh withches tour etc...
Loch Lomond 1.75 hrs. Aberdeen , Pitlochry, crieff, dunkeld , within 1 hour
Scottish Whisky trail - a trek but not beyond the stars (unless you partake)
Hope ye enjoy Scotland on your visit man - but Glasgow and the central Lowlands - hmmm.

I'd watch that road to Oban - I lost an alloy in a pothole there. I was able to limp back but a Galaxy had stopped 'round the bend and his front near side wheel was destroyed.
Not a good road to take the racing line on left hand bends... stick to the middle of the lane if you can. Stonking scenery mind you...

Why not enjoy an evening watching the Speedway as you'll be just a shortish drive along the motorway from the mighty Monarchs? More info here Edinburgh Monarchs | Official Club Website

That's a great road, watch for trucks though. Shouldn't take that long really.
If you go from the back of Glasgow you can go via Inveraray which is just tremendous.
also nip round the Scotsburgring at Kinlochleven if you cross the bridge at North Ballaculish, cracking bit of tarmac.
wanting to do it myself now.
