I did the pamper thing - basically set an open credit (gulp!) on the day for my Mum and told her to enjoy herself.

She loved it (and came back with a bloody dressing gown that COST).

I know you want her to have something for the day, but really (don't take this the wrong way) by that stage she'll have most everything she wants and a good memory of a great day goes a long way.

Yeah agree that you can't really go wrong with jewellery. Bought my mum this for her birthday
9ct white gold diamond and aquamarine necklace - The Diamond and Watch Specialist - Ernest Jones

...and also a nice meal in a Thai restaurant

Well, sometimes male family members find it difficult to select suitable jewellery for female family members. There are some good jewellers in Wrexham from where you may be able to get your mum a gift card, to buy some jewellery of her own choice? There is an ornaments store at Lord Street as well. They also engrave special messages on keepsake gifts things for you, I hear. M&S lofty gift card is another thing you can give her, ladies seem to find some good useful stuff there. If you were to give her a a pamper day at spa, bear Grosvenor Pulford hotel in your mind. They are good. Just ring them, and ask them to make a package for your mum with their massage, pool use etc.

IMO You MUST give her a big bouquet of flowers to begin her day, whatever you do. She will love it

Ok then
What does your mum like or her hobbies, start there.

Top of my head

Spa Day, somewhere real nice where she will get pampered

If she is a Tom Jones fan get her tickets, that sort of thing.

Does she have her own house and garden?

If so get a plant for the garden that will last. A tree if there is room, an Acer perhaps, or a standard rose. If she is not into plants then a garden bench or similar.

Or spend some time putting together a family photo album or getting a special photo blown up and mounted on canvas and frame it? dl

Actually a variation on this theme could be to get a favourite old photo and have it put on Canvas:

Natahn,

Bought my Mum a digital photo frame for her 70th and pre-loaded it with music and photos of all the family.

She loves it!
