Watchmen
I quite like a read, but I've never been one for Graphic novels and that sort of thing.
One of my mates has been hounding me for ages to pick up "Watchmen", which is a 500 page graphic novel, and I used to consistantly reply "I'm not reading that ****e" or words to that effect.
This wekeend I succumbed, I was in a bookshop and I happened to see it on a shelf, so I thought I would pick it up, just so I could tell said mate that it is a load of ****e from a position of strength.
I stretched out on the Sofa about 3pm saturday, and I was still there at 3am. I then had to phone my mate yesterday and eat humble pie. It was one of the best reads I have had in ages - Utterly compelling. Anyone else read it?

That was an expensive gamble at £18.00 for a comic, wasn't it Pete?
Glad to see that yet another person has discovered one of the greatest novels of the Twentieth Century.

Glad to hear ya liked it
Can't wait for the film to come out.
Graphic novels have been underrated by the general public for years imho.
Another good writer of ze graphic novels is Warren Ellis, I'm gonna have to re-read the Transmetropolitan graphic novels again soon actually thinking of it, awesome stuff

I've been a fan of Watchmen for many years and I've read it several times.
I've seen the trailer for the new film and I can't wait! Some of the shots are so true to the graphic novel, that I know which part of the novel they are up to!

How can they reduce all that complexity down to a couple of hours, though? I'm sure the bits they DO get right will be superb; I love the realisation of Rorschach's character from what I've seen.

It was £9.99
With regards to the movie, I've been reading up about it a bit, apparantly they are going to drop the whole "Tales of the Black Freighter" comic, and have it as an extra on a DVD. I can see why, but then it is a shame to lose it.
It's going to have to be a 3 hour film to do it any justice and give the characters the complexity they deserve.
Roscharch is just an amazing character, as is Dr Manhattan - I love his perception of time, and the fact that he knows what is going to happen, but can't do anything to stop it.

Looking forward to this one too.
Had the GN since I was in school. I went through a phase of spending all my Saturdays in Comic Showcase in Oxford.
