"When Does the Turbo Kick in"

"When Does the Turbo Kick in"
Why do people ask this, is there and actual answer ?
Someone at work asked me the other day in relation to my car and I didn't have an answer, I think they are asking for a number of revs but isn't this practically the same sort of point on most standard turbocharged production cars, how do you tell and what do you tell people who ask this, should I have a powerpoint presentation ready with torque curves. What is the definition of having kicked in on something that is working all the time.
What would be a good answer and why does it irk me, why is it relevant in terms of revs when it would depend on gearing.
"About four thirty on weekdays"
"When I press the pedal on the right"

Awful, vague question really, as it needs to be significantly qualified to yield a meaningful answer. However, people don't want to hear "I get bar of boost at 2700rpm".
So, I usually say: "Soon enough"

Mine kicks in when the little red needle starts moving rapidly up towards the 2 in the cute little half moon shaped gauge in the middle of two others on my dash. I think it has something to do with a horse that talks?

Exactly as Devildog says. As soon as the turbos begins to produce enough boost to start pressurising the inlet manifold it will start increasing the power output more which will continue to produce more boost up to the maximun set value. That start point depends on the above circumstances.

Mine seems to kick in most just after I've paid for a fresh fill of V-Power. Could that be the cause?
I've also got a feeling it's something to do with the amount of noise you get from pressing the pedal on the right.

People who ask this need to know because whilst lying down in the bathroom with their jocks around their ankles, propping the door shut with one foot, it helps them ejaculate harder whilst reading the Extreme Power section of Top Marques.

So when does yours kick in then?

Anyone think getting a lighter flywheel is a worthwhile investment?
I think the standard is 11kg - not sure though!

Holy ****. It's like being on bloody ClubCalibra again
Long 3rd gears from the V6 mob and people buying lighter flywheels for better pick up.
You just watch, some smug git's going to mention that lighter flywheels mean the revs drop more easily between gear changes and makes it more jerky.
Oh bollocks. I just did.

Why all the 'hole picking' in perfectly straight foward question?
You all know what the person is asking, why go all 'geekish' on them?
It makes you rather stupid and sad when you start preaching the setup of your turbo charger to them.
As somebody already said, if someone asks you 'when does the v-tec kick in', you get a very simple answer!

A friend of mine once asked if the turbo needed recharged Years ago though when we were about 19.
So I think the best answer would be, 'Oh I don't use it that much in case it runs out'
