Default Led torches

Ok now that winter is coming up im thinking of ditching the halogen and buying me a nice handheld led torch that i can also strap to the bike.

One rule, it needs to be damn powerful, reliable and have a decent run time.

Any ideas?

Dealextreme.com is the place to go for a LED torch. Can take a bit of brain power to understand the different LED brands (Cree, Luxeon etc) and which is top dog within each range.

If you want off-the-shelf choice, how about a Fenix L2D Q5. Can be helmet or bar mounted on a bike with Lockblock.

Photonshop also do Fenix stuff here in the UK.

ledshoppe.com as well - I've bought a few of the small led torches from there and dealextreme.com for no more than £3 each and the performance is incredible....

Any recommendations for something which runs on normal batteries ? I just want as bright as possible using normal AA, C or D cells. Don't want to spend the earth, but up to £30 is fine.

Sorry to drag this back up, ive got the light today, here's a comparison with my 35w lumicycle, which are overvolted so more like 42w.

Lumi

Mte p7

Pic is a bit blurry as the camera kept dimming to low to compensate.

The lumi is a lot more yellow than the pic suggests all in all my nuts are on the road.

Aah no i haven't didn't think they would be a straight swap, i have a 4d mag as well, though on candlepower forums i know the go mad on these and stuff them full of led's, meant to be blinding.

Tbh we have a ton of torches here, but the mag i will do at some point.

I can't use cr123 lithiums as the voltage would burn out the emitter so it's ultrafire 18650's for me, protected of course.

I get an hour at full blast anyway and it drops after that, as you know cells are cheap enough anyway.

Funny you should mention fenix, ive just ordered a locblock after being messed around on ebay, what are they like for delivery?

Lol oh dear ive just seen this.

TERRALUX TLE-300M LED for D CELL MAG & GLASS BREAK CAP on eBay, also Flashlights, Lanterns Lights, Camping Hiking, Outdoor Sports, Sporting Goods (end time 06-Sep-08 22:15:35 BST)

I think my mag might be the 6 cell, i bought it years ago and the thing is huge.

Check this out.

I have a six cell Mag,, but it isn't a rechargeable. Would I just need to use the higher voltage D-cell L-ion rechargeables to effect this conversion

Looks useful. I too would like a decent torch to mount on my MTB for winter off/on road riding.

How do you fit this to a bike though? Do they supply a bracket?

For the Fenix Q5, a LockBlock works a treat. Fits my bike helmet but it depends on the number and size of vents (in which case a bit of modification should sort it). It might fit the SSC P7 as well.
