I've been with HSBC for years.

Started using their Windows software which was not bad and certainly better than writing out cheques.

I've now been using the Internet service for what seems an age and it's ace. Looks nice but not over the top with pointless flash animations or anything so it's quick to use.

You can look at your DDs/SOs, stop cheques and if you have a HSBC credit card look at the statement for that along with all the usuall stuff.

PC Pro did a comparision of online banking a while back. I might still have the review at home if it's anyuse.

i use both egg and cahoot.

no gripes with either. i did prefer egg originally but cahoot really seem to have got their act together recently and they offer some excellent interest rates.

We use Nationwide - you can do most things online, but you still have a branch if you really want to talk face to face. When you have their current account you can open an e-savings account - an internet based savings account with pretty respectable rates.

Blimey, I sound like a salesman

I worked on the original value proposition for cahoot and use it for my credit card - it is a pretty slick system to use, although Egg is just as good IMHO.

I've now switched mortgages, from a discounted staff deal, to Woolwich Open Plan www.woolwich.co.uk so I service my mortgage, savings and current from here and to date I find it the easiest and quickest package available ....

Cheers

I use NatWest On-Line and really like it now. Last time I visited a branch was 9 months ago to get a bankers draft for the wifes car deposit.

It has improved failry regularly since it original implementation a few years ago - which wasnt hard. I actually worked on the design team for some of the Network on the front and back end (I no longer work there). Board made a decision they wanted an internet platform. a few months later they had one but it was crap. The site was more interested in branding than speed. When RBoS took over they made some changes which seemed to help speedwise (junked lots of Java and graphics as far as I could see) . Functionality has steadily increased aswell.

I feel confident recommneding it now - not something I would have done 18 months ago.

Kevin,

Have you got a Citibank credit card? I'm trying to find out if I can get any sort of Internet banking for my CC.

Used Barclays for a couple of years now and never had any problems.

What I like about it is that I can download my statements directly into Microsoft Money.

Means I can track exactly how much the Scoob is costing

egg and woolwich are the biz. Disco - your main problem would be depositing the 720 million cash you have stashed away. You would need to go to lots of different branches

Always helpful IMHO

Citibank:
free 365x24x7 0800 access to your accounts (touchtone or real person). Can even phone from abroad and reverse the charges.
free Euro account and get €50 free for opening it
free US$ account
free use of *every* uk ATM
free cashcard linked to Euro account for use in Europe ATMs (no charge to use them either)
internet access to accounts
free Gold card
free statements
free £500 overdraft

the catch?
to avoid charges, you have to maintain £2,000 average balance in all your accounts combined each month. But you do get interest on your £ account so not too bad.

Citibank do have a Gold credit card but you can't see it on-line. They only do internet banking for current accounts.

Try Amex, MBNA, Barclaycard or Nationwide Visa if that's what you need?
