Default Traffic Cops

Did anyone watch this tonight? How fookin' far did that Honda Civic fly? He must have been doing a ridiculous speed to have travelled that far, roll 3 or 4 times and then land on the roof of a bungalow!

I wish I'd seen it

Yes a very lucky escape. Same with the young joiner with the car full that ended up in the field.

Was weird to see my ex-employer "acting" all "grown-up".... as the witness, as he is a big motorsport fan and rally organiser/participant.

Some mightt say he (and I) would be hypocritical to condone the Honda drivers actions...

My Golf looked like that, but wasn't going that fast, and I walked away.... then Neil gave me a job as I was car-less.

Some lucky escapes, but at the age of 18 I had an Imp, mates had minis and one rich kid an escort, none of which could manage 90 mph.

What was dangerous about the BMW's driving? He passed the Type R and the young lad didn't have the skill to stay on the road.

Does someone trying to catch up with you / stay with you, mean that you are driving dangerously? Worthy of a two year ban?

I think the point was that it was pretty obvious they were racing, and the speed caused the accident lack of skill or not. Of course it was a worthy ban, that idiot could of killed people.

But why do the cops take so much frigging time to investigate every bloody detail? Road closed, photos, fourteen tape measures etc when it was blindingly obvious that the car was being driven way too fast. I'd have thought that even the court would accept that a car landing on a roof 100 yards from where it left the road might have been doing over the limit. I am sure there are better ways to spend our money. dl

Because if he died it's a murder investigation... usually at the time of the accident if it's likely to be a fatal/near fatal (which if their taken to hospital like that chap it's a potential) the scene needs to be treated as such. Once everythings moved and the roads re-opened you've lost the evidence.

Not really murder - he didn't sit in the passenger seat, lean over and steer and push the accelerator pedal then jump out before it went Pete Tong.

Perhaps manslaughter, although even that is a push, since no-one forced the driver in the Civic to race - he went willingly and of his own volition.

But your point is understood - they had to investigate the road since they only had one shot and if the chap had of died, it would have been a far more serious offence...

They also have to be sure what caused the accident. There's no point in saying "it's obvious he was speeding" as that's not exactly going to stand up in court, is it? If it was my roof the ****** had landed on, I'd want him strung up.

And another thing. The BMW driver did the right thing by reporting the accident (although using an assumed name), and that seemed to be one of the main bits of evidence to tie him to the scene Hardly encouraging good citizenship.

I guess there was other evidence that wasn't shown then

Two cars going fast does not necessarily equal a race. If the BMW was half a mile ahead when the Civic crashed would it still be his fault?

The fact that he made the phone call was used, because he claimed nothing out of the ordinary had happened, it proved that he was lying.

they did pass a witness who described how they were racing and their pace too.

the civic driver had a fancy hair cut all sticking up at the front but a cracking big bald patch ! looked a proper **** in his versace top !

I'm a bit older than some of the forum members here- tell you what it makes a difference when you do get these morons wanting to race you--- you can just shrug yr shoulders and smile and wave at them------ guess those two last night were just too young and stupid.

Having witnessed a similar accident to the Civic's many years ago, including the clearing of a 10ft+ hedge whilst performing a triple somersault without touching it, the Civic wasn't going any less than 100mph when he lost it. The car I watched fortunately landed on its wheels in a field, leaving only a few bruises on the occupants and about 4 tonnes of sh*t in their pants.
