Models Direct
My step daughter has been offered a modelling contract with the above, upon speaking to her mother she has advised me that they have to pay £128 to register for three years & there is no certainty that she'll get any work.
Is it just me that smells something off ??
Anyone heard of this ?
Cant seem to find anything about them on a quick check.

Any agency that charges a fee is a scam, phone a few top London ones up and they'll say the same thing, if she's genuinely attractive they'll sign her up for free.

Yep. Def a con. They 'offered' my 12 month old son some work. If we paid up front the £128. Looked more into it, and after lots of research, as said, if the modelling agency genuinely thinks they will make money from you, they will not charge a penny.

I have no idea about that agency.
In general though, you should look for local schools that do acting, singing etc.. and see what agency is associated with them.
There WILL be some up front fees and no guarantee of work, but at least they are generally reputable.
My daughters go to Italia Conti and belong to the associated agency and have had some work in a couple of films.

Any agency that charges for anything even the coffee they supply you when you have a portfolio done etc is a scam, the latest one is diesel modelling, nice familiar name there !! (nothing to do with the genuine DIESEL Brand)
TFP or now CDFP or DVDFP is your best bet, that way the photogropher and the client both get what they want for no ££ involved.
then work up for paid shoots etc.
The market is so cut throat now its really only word of mouth opportunites that get you any ££ or being in the right place at the right time, but thats few and far between now

The trouble is if you shoot kids (so to speak), and pay them , you need a license from the council, so it's usually more trouble than it's worth. Many parents think their kids have what it takes, but of course few people actually make money from modelling.
On a slight tangent, models make me laugh. You read their blurb on sites like net-model.com, and half of them just list what they won't do, that they'll only work with top pros
guaranteed to get published, and of course want to be paid £30-£60 p/h for it. Then when you book them, half the time they don't show, and send some lame excuse later.
The moral of the story is if you want to work as a model, at any age, be professional, sell yourself, rather than just scaring people off, and realise that the vast majority of modelling is photographic, not catwalk.
Spleen vented.
