If it's a single row or column of pixels that's always black, it sounds to me like a break in one of the signals that controls the panel - probably not fixable without a new panel, sadly

you know what.
i believe that regardless of warranty, if you can prove that the defect is a manufacturing fault/failure, as opposed to you throwing a coffee down the back of it, i'm sure there is a 3 year "merchantable quality" agreement, or some such thing.
i had a row with comet about a JVC camcorder once ended up getting a refund directly from JVC (one of their companies) 18 months old it was

Play bloody hell wherever you got it from, get in touch with Panasonic UK and mither them to F*ck, I got my Laptop fixed (wireless died) by HP out of warranty as it was a known fault.

Then buy a lovely reliable LCD

update.

Phoned the big useless electrical superstore, they wanted to charge me to send someone out, told them to forget it,
rang panasonic, known fault, send the receipt and a report of a panasonic dealer, and it will be fixed foc, i only have to contribute a small amount to the labour, im happy with that, local panasonic repair specialist have been great, they havent even seen the telly and know what the problem is and have instructed me what to do next.
we want to get to small lcd's for the kids bedrooms, try and guess where we will be buying it from.
could have been a very expensive lesson, i already had my eye on a bigger tv put if this gets repaired satisfactorily then i will be happy with that.

Glad to hear it all sorted out. Just shows the sort of after sales service these big dealers are good, or not good for.

They just didnt want you doing to them what you did to the insurance company re the bathroom, the call centre staff are still in counseling after that.
