Hi Guys,

Anyone know what is the quickest and easiest way to find who a car is registered too from only the Reg plate?

Cheers

DVLA sell the info if you've a genuine reason for wanting it - a criminal usually lol.

PNC is the other way.

Do the DLVA sell the info to individuals?

some ****hole scratched my car the other day and i have photos of the car and the reg. I think from previous posts on here, as fp says, you can apply to the dvla if you have a genuine reason for wanting the data - ie a vehicle leaving the scene of an accident, or something similar.

all this info is also on the insurance database i think (could be wrong here though), so if you want the info for something damage related like i do, then your insurer may be able to assist.

of course people ask for this sort of info from the dvla and lie about the reason, so they don't get knocked back

If he scratched it on purpose then report it.

I'm not sure the DVLA should be giving out this sort of information to anyone for any reason. If you have had a knock, then report it to your insurance company ans they could get the information.

So, FP, PNC in one window SN in the other, you are either surfing on Police equipment or accessing PNC on private equipment, both would be serious transgressions when I used to work at GMP, but they were very **** about surfing, stupidly so.

You should be a detective lol.

Internet use is fine as long as it's not used in excess.

I use it to help with work anyway. You'd be surprised how many stolen cars appear on ebay and autotrader with their correct reg plates.

All police PNC activity is logged these days and they do audits too and will ask why was a certain PNC check done if they can x ref it with something they dont like the smell of.

This will be why your friend wont do it.

FP was told this when he took the job but I think he might have misunderstood the term **** and thought it would be a perk if he got caught.

Sorry, Officer.

No I understand that totally. I wouldn't want to get anyone in trouble just because of my stupid curiosity.

Depending on what your curiosity is, the vehicle could be parked next door to someone on SN and your questions could be answered.

Ah, well that narrowed it down. Right, if you are afraid of being identified then maybe you could wear a disguise and go and ask them the question?

i don't think he scratched it on purpose - more of a scrape when parking. i'm pretty sure they know they did it as they had their car parked in a certain way when i arrived and then after the scratch, the car was parked as far away from mine (albeit still in the next space as they are allocated spaces) as possible, round the opposite way and parked millimetres from some railings where i assume he thought i would not be able to see the side of his car

no note left etc etc, so i'm going to find him to at least make my point

I can't work without it - access is a tool of the job just as much as PNC, and the various other big brother databases we have access to.

The amount of fraud that these sites facilitate make net access a must

When I get a 'lead' I always use google, etc. as well as all the police only methods to trace people/companies/cars.

There are rules on using the net, but a simple phone number or name in google (or similar) can often give results that other 'sectret' tools fail on.
