So you ride a bike and like to park in London eh ??
Well surprise surprise, another good kick in the nuts from Westminster Council (soon to be followed by all the other councils). 
Have got a few guys in the office who commute in on bikes and to say they are not happy is an understatement....

All seems fine to me, Am i missing the problem ???

All for the grand sum of £1.50 not bad, Dam site cheaper than car parking I would imagine

Park a car and it's £30 per day plus £8 per day congestion charge
I know bikers have an image of being cheap ***** but £1.50 for improved facilities doesn't sound too bad ??

The rub is the amount of parking available for bikes is pretty slim anyway and they are not increasing by the amount indicated. More like up to 1000 spaces, which in central London is nothing.
The post was meant to show just how sly and underhand these councils bring in the measures. Anyone heard of the consultations or feedback ?

Sounds like congestion charge by stealth (for bikes) to me ... I wait in hope that one day they'll be returning money to me rather than take more off me. At some point in the future our entire wage will be spent on either tax or stealth tax

Bikes are now more popular, so there's a chance to squeeze some cash from them.
They still polute and take up space on the roads...............

How long before it's then raised to 3 quid?? A year maybe?
At £7.50 a week - 50 weeks of the year the average commuter will now have to stump up an extra £375 to add to their transport costs (out of the blue, for nothing in return - no consultation, no warning.)
That's quite a large sum in my opinion.

They've recently done exactly the same with electric cars. The reason why electric cars had free parking in the city was to encourage people to use cleaner transport. This is one of the main reasons why people spent thousands to take advantage of this benefit. Now because of their popularity, they've taken away the free parking to discourage people from using them as its now causing congestion! It will now cost £2000 to get a parking permit, which will rise to £4000 in 2010 and then the same as a normal motorised vehicle in 2011.

And don't forget you have to dial one of those 0870 numbers from your mobile to pay for the "parking", watching on the tv yesterday morning it was taking up to 1/2 an hour to get through to the parking starzi to pay for your unsecured street parking!!!

I used to but got fed up with lack of spaces. I'm in the square mile for most of this week and it's a major hassle for me to go on the train but had no choice as the amount of bike parking near where I am is virtually non existent and any that there is is full up very early in the day. As for the free parking down at Canary Wharf I always used to use most of that's been binned in the last year or so to squeeze as much money as possible out of the bikers.
