British Gas: Sorry for the price hike, have some light bulbs!
So, they bump up the gas rates. Nice, usual sentiments about costs etc.
Now what do I find on my doorstep after getting home from w*rk? Four "free" energy saving light bulbs courtesyof BG. WTF?
So let me get this straight, they have "no choice" but to put up energy bills. But they can afford to send out light bulbs ***** nilly to help "save the planet"!?!?!
And these aren't the cheapo stick style ones you get from Wilkos for 99p, no. These are retail boxed, branded Philips, and ultra compact 10yr light bulbs.
Best bit is I don't buy my electric off BG - just the Gas. I was going to switch, but after working out the tarrif scales, I only saved a quid a month, so wasn't worth the hassle. I've only just got them to get my address corrected - finally.
To think they are sending out 52million of these bulbs. Which are supposed to help "reduce our carbon footprint" which they will on a personal level, but....What about the global scale? The pollution emitted by producing these bulbs, the pollution caused by shipping them to the doors of all the BG customers, and not to forget the pollution caused by disposing of them? What a farce!

LOL, I noted no ROHS symbol on them: So, more mercury and lead for the landfill!
Seeing all the light that could be converted to CFl have already have been (using the faithful 99p Wilko variety), they'll stay on the shelf for when the others burn out. No doubt a few will get broken; which is not unusual in this household.

So thinking it might be an early wedding pressie, I head off to St Helens (land of the gods) sorting office hand over my card and show them my driving license, only to be given some frickin free energy saving lightbulbs!!!
Cheeky fekkers...

every time i go shopping i buy a few 'old school' bulbs, got about 3 boxes full in the loft now. when you can't get them anymore i'm going to flood ebay
hate the bloody things take ages to warm up and when i put them in downstairs some of the other lights don't work. ok so there might be a wiring issue but we'll gloss over that
