New Av install & Bu**er
Just hit the second prob with my new AV install this morning
shortstuff decides he wants to go on the PS2, no probs, its all wired in, so i fires it up whacks in a disc and..
Nothing, disc read error........................................
funny it was ok last week, so i try again.....ditto disc read errror.
i then pull it all out, and stand it vertically, (where it always used to stand)
and bobs your it works.
turn it back to horizontal, and it wont work.
so i have all these nice new av units, and a PS2 sitting to one side lol
I,m guessing that its just down to wear and tear, and the laser unit / transport mech is getting weak.
Mind you i cant complain, its a launch day unit
so it looks like a bit of shopping will be in order later (again)

Sorry,?
the 40GB PS£ has no hardware emotion engine chip (ps2) or software emulation, too enable backward compatibility.
The origial 60gb model had software emulation, the only truley backward compatible units were the US & Japanese consoles, which had both SW & HW emulation
Thank sony for cost cutting.
Anyway we digress
going to try stripping it down tonight for a rebuild

Sound like the suspension for the optical pickup is on its way out (the fate of most DVD/CD players) They are about £40, so its always good to ensure that its actually that at fault and not a money spider living in there or worn positioning gear (£10) or the lens is just dirty (especially if people smoke in the house...smoking kills.....playstations ). .Not to forget finger prints on the underside of the discs.

tried the online- fix/ adjust, some success, but not 100%
I end up either with DVD based games not working and purple discs not working, or vice versa,
Ive set it back to how it was, and placed it vertically next to the units. Not Ideal, but her indoors is happy, and dosent mind it there
I priced up a SH one today £40 and comes with a 12mth GT
allways that option if it gets worse
