Question

Sorry - this has been done before, but now that now the Blue-i has had a chance to become established, I thought it wouldn't hurt to raise it again.

Could anyone who knows care to comment on either product (or both):

1. Value for money
2. Reliability
3. Worthwhile features
4. Upgradeability
5. Ease of use
6. If you were buying one now (because you didn't have one) which would you choose?
7. Anything else

Thanks in advance

Rich

could try www.trafcam.co.uk

I have had the discrete set up for 2 weeks now and initial impressions are very good. TomTom also do a route planner for pda's and although a little basic compared to built-in sat nav, it uses gps to follow / find you on a uk map and you can follow a preplanned route. They email you with notification of new camara updates but you do not get £50 for finding a new location

Ta for the reply Simon.

Not too keen on using a hand held PC for this sort of thing - a bit fiddly and I don't have one anyway.

Any other comments peeps?

Given the Geodesy has worked perfectly for a year, I'd buy another one.

The database is excellent, which is the most important thing with the gps based solutions.

Also, the interface is simple - just some lights which can easily positioned within your 'field of view'.

I have a BlueI and have the following observations...

1. It can take some time to get a GPS sat lock on it (does this happen on Geodesy? )
2. Some cameras are reported as being on the other side of the road. It still warns you but ones that are birdirectional (A316 and A40 going into London are corkers) it warns you they are on the opposite side.
3. Update procedure is very slick - plug it in and sit back and watch !
4. Will tell you what type of camera it is (GATSO or SPECS).
5. Has a motorway setting so that it only report cameras on motorway and not near it. In a line of, say, 4 cameras, it will warn you of the first and continue warning you on screen until you go past the last one, not beeping.

Richard,

I went down to Birmingham a few weeks ago with my mate who has a Geodesy, I took along my BEL radar detector also. But I was very disappointed in the Geodsey, most of the time it didn't get a signal, and it missed 75% of the cameras that we saw and the BEL picked up first.
He is now going back to the shop to change it for the Blue-i.

I think the place is in Lanark, BTW

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm looking to buy either one of these GPS units (to compliment my Valentine 1 )

Still undecided.

Geodesy - simple, effective, tried and trusted (by most accounts.)
Blue-i - newer, more features, LCD screen though yet to be convinced that it's better.

Keep the opinions coming folks

RichS,

i am surprised, given the number of folks that seemed to take up the "group Buy" or "early buy" of the BlueI that there are not more reports here.

If it was soooo good, i would have thought that there would be a little more feedback?

Exclamation

Have had a Geodsey for a few months now. So far it has found every fixed camera without exception (even in motorway roadworks) and as far as I am concerned is worth every penny. Like the best technology it is simple, but effective.

Regards,

tiggers.

Still way impressed with my Geodesy, other than some silly behavior on the M25 no problems with detection. Saved me again last night heading into Hemel.

Interesting results David. What car was it?

My Geodesy lives in the oddments bin on top of the dash on my Scooby and quite happily works through the lid. You get the odd drop out if you go under trees but only for a few seconds.

So far it's called every camera spot on. The A13 is littered with the damn things.

On the Rally GB this year with Charlie Whiskey, we ran both a Bel radar detector and my Geodesy in the same car (power leads all over the shop!). The Geodesy picked up all the Gatos's including a Mini Gatso which Chris's Bel doesn't pickup. Made for interesting information seeing which Gatsos are loaded and which aren't.

Chris.
