Lcd 40" tv will i notice a diffence 720 vs 1080
I currently own a samsung r87 40" lcd tv. This tv is 720 and i am thinking about buying sky hd and a xbox 360. My question is will both of these work ok on this set or is worth me upgraded to a 1080 set. Am i going to notice a massive difference between the 720 and 1080
Thanks

From what I've read at 40" you won't notice much difference. When I was buying my plasma 1080p sets were £5k, but I compared them anyway. At 50" the difference was there, but nowhere near enough to justify £3.5k over what I paid for a 768 pixel panel. Now the price difference is much smaller, but I still can't justify replacing a perfectly functioning set for the slight benefit. Now, if you were considering swapping the LCD for a plasma then I'd say go for it

It entirely depends on the size of the screen and your distance from it.
Worth bearning in mind that Sky broadcasts all content at 1080i (although you can choose to get the box to display it as 720p) and most 360 content is 720p/1080i

Short answer - No.
Long Answer - Sky HD isn't even 720p - it's "only" 1080i natively and will scale up to 720p if you set it to that, better to stick with 1080i.
360 - I'm using the HDMI cable to upscale games to 1080p and the difference is barely noticable - and I definately wouldn't use it as a DVD player even though I have one of the supposed "quieter" 360's. I'm going back to 720p over component to save me swapping HDMI cables around in the back of the telly.
1080p is great if you have something that will output it natively without any scaling, I don't want to trigger a new round of 360 Vs PS3 debates but unless you've got something in 1080p then don't bother upgrading your telly just yet - wait until next year when OLED comes out.

Don't get too giddy over OLED just yet ! The current panels are showing unexpected variation in the ageing over the colour gamut leading to mucky whites and poor colour accuracy. It has taken Sony by surprise on the commercial panels they have already marketed and it may be some time before they resolve the issue.
