Question Eco towns

Why are the gov't pushing for these 'eco' towns when nobody is buing any houses at the moment? How can a town be eco when you've ploughed up thousands of acres of GREENBELT to build it? I suppose when they build these new places they'll be soulless identical boxes just like 99% of housing in MK is.

Think it's a farce THB.

They hate the very idea of a Green Belt and would love to cover it completely with concrete!

Don't worry, it won't happen. At least, not under this government.

Gordon Brown's futuristic eco-towns to fine residents for driving out of city limits - Times Online

The more I read, the more these so-called eco towns sound like prisons without walls.

Yeah but the only people dumb enough to buy homes in an Eco-town are the PC, treehugging feckwits, so maybe they're not such a bad idea after all!

Don't prisons have proper flushing toilets these days? Eco-towns won't; the last thing I heard was that houses would have teflon-coated toilet bowls that 'flush' with sawdust. (Yes, really!)

For some reason, though, the idea of rounding up all the environmentalists (who else would choose to live there, after all?) and keeping them in one place has a certain appeal... can't quite put my finger on why at this moment, though

To be honest I think its a good idea. Private companies will foot the bill and with rising energy costs house hold bills may end up being a significant factor in deciding what house people will buy. We have to use energy more sustainably and this is a start to doing it. I don't beleive in the man made global warming crap but I do think we need to make staps towards sustainable living otherwise natural resources will one day run out.
