Waste oil
There is a collection at our local tip - but it says just for engine oil, no gear box oil, vegetable oil etc.
What do they do with the old engine oil then - burn it or re-use it.....?

It's true, they re-sell it once seived ..... very expensive, mind you, about £35 for 4 Litres ..... given some sort of fancy name and sold to the un-educated
Puzzled at this pslewis fellow .. he seems to be on a few peoples mind rather a lot.

We used to use a lot of used oil in gas holders. These are full of water in the bottom tank and a layer of oil on top stopped any water evaporating and getting into the system

And what do you do with used gearbox oil, coolant etc? I asked about coolant at the tip the other week and the guy looked blank and said to stick it in with the engine oil. Hope I didn't ruin it if it's of use for something.

In fact, I struggled to remember how his username was spelt... 20,000 pointless posts and now virtually forgotten: anyway.....

I read in Car Mechanics mag a couple of months ago that you can flush your old coolant down the toilet but you can't dispose of it in a fresh water drain.
