Default Anyone done a driving day at Silverstone lately?

I'm going next week as a guest of my sister on her company's day out , which basically means I get to drive the cars she doesn't want to. She has told me I won't be driving the Ferrari or Porche but what else is good?

Anyone been there recently? - I have heard if you spin your session is over - which means if I get a go in a 'Caterfield' it will be a very short drive...

I have been told the Silverstone ones can be a bit disappointing. I did the Castle Combe one earlier this year and it was very good indeed.

Oh bugga and it sounds quite good on the website where my Mrs bought it for my birthday.

Agenda
Your experience will start with a briefing, before taking to the circuit for your first lapping session following a pace car while learning the track, the racing lines and braking areas and taking the opportunity to adjust to the car. Then, for your second session, the pace car will leave the track F1 style and you’re on your own, free to push it as fast as you want to go! The experience will end with a debriefing and certificate presentation.

There are also some reviews where previous punters have said they could go as fast as they wanted and were allowed to race and overtake.

I did a single seater once before at Oulton Park and overtaking was limited to the car in front moving over to the right and allowing you to pass. Excellent day out though.

i did a single seater day and it was dissapointing . hour breifing and 40 mins on track which you could only overtake on a 200 meter stretch nowhere else and i got stuck behind the slowest woman who thought she was good by weaving on the strait so i couldnt overtake and then had to follow her round the track at 30mph she got a few words from me and the other drivers afterwards ,fooking idiot .

At Castle Combe you get a demonstration from an instructor and then you swap seats and he will get you to drive as fast as you are capable. You get 6 laps in a formula ford free to lap as you wish, and laps in a Focus, a Scooby and a Lotus Exige each with a different instructor. All the instructors are really nice blokes and totally helpful.

I shall go again next year.

My sons Silverstone Exige experience was far better than my Ferrari 360 experience at Donington, was left feeling a little disappointed although was probably still worth it.

Sounds very similar to one I did at Oulton Park.

1st couple of laps you drove at about 20 miles an hour whilst the instructor showed you all the turning points, blue cone for your braking zone and red cones for your turn in, apex etc. Then you had to do a marked fast lap where you had to score a certain amount of points to qualify for the 6 laps in a single seater. Then the instructor took you around at race speed I was frightened fukcing sh1ttless especially as some peeps were still doing their 20 mile an hour lap, some were doing their fast lap and other instructors were doing their race speed lap.

There was a massive, massive difference between the instructors and the trackday boys.

It is similar I suppose except that the instructor drove the car first on a slowish lap and than one white knuckle one, and then you swapped seats and he did his best to get you driving as fast as you could. The you went for 6 laps in the Formula Ford followed by a repetition of the first bit twice, in a Scooby and then the Lotus.

I done one at Brands a few years back......... session in a 3 series BMW, learn the lines and all that crap, then session in single seater which was unlimited but was suppose to stick to under 4k rpm. Then had another session in each.

I got pulled in a told off for exceeding the rev limit, I was hardly thrashing it, oh and also passed on the wrong side because some muppet couldn't get the car in gear and had actually stopped on the track..... so what was everyone suppose to do queue up behind??

My brother done the same experience a few years after and they had upgraded the single seaters which unfortunately meant mechanical rev limiters.

They ain't too bad but could really do with giving you a bit more driving time/allowing you to go a bit harder.

I did the rally experience on Saturday, would highly recommend it. Great instuctors and no real restrictions. Managed to set the quickest time of the day

Bit different to the rear wheel drive escort cossies brands used to have
