'Stop wasting food' orders Brown
BBC NEWS | Politics | 'Stop wasting food', urges Brown
Cheeky f*cker
How dare a Nu Labor minister have the nerve to lecture people about 'waste' after the vast quatities of our resources they have wasted on an hourly/daily/yearly basis since they have been in charge.
The sheer brass neck of it makes me gape in disbelief!!
What next - food police?? Fines for throwing away a sandwich??

You are missing the point here.
The issue Brown is trying to divert attention away from is the growing global problems caused by the new reliance on biofuels.
Those slippery turds at the G8 forced the biofuel issue on the world a few years ago, predictably without the foresight to realise that by using the worlds grain stock to fuel cars it would drive up the price and put the most basic resources into short supply for the third world.
They are just covering their backs and shifting the blame onto the general population by saying that we are a wasteful society.
It is true that we use and waste too many resources, but it is not the main reason for rising food prices.

When it comes to waste of our taxes in particular, they are unsurpassed in their abilities. How dare he come out with a statement like that.
Next thing will be a clever microchip in the wheelie bins to detect food waste and the standard fine will be at least £100 for a first offence!

To be fair the wheat grain they use for bio fules is the same as they use for animal feed but not the same as they use for foodstuffs, also worth considering that they're only using 1% of all wheat grown for animal foods.
it is laughable that our PM tells us to watch what we eat and not to waste anything, maybe they could ask all of the dignitaries who attend the next govt banquet to bring a packed lunch........

We are a bit chewed about the winter, Oil Central Heating
Only about 400% dearer than a few years ago. Yet, they still clag their 5% vat on top of it

You have to admire the ***** of this mornings statement when put side by side with the menu from today (which might I add no African nations were invited to just to rub more salt in their wounds).

Angrynorth beat me to the G8 Scandal.
Don't forget that Brown hasn't lived in the real world for at least 10 years he's been chauffeured around and had his snout deep in the trough.
He's verging on insane.....I just pity the Tories who in fairness handed over a booming economy to the New Labour halfwits who promised that they wouldn't be a party that increased our taxes.
When the Tories get in it will probably take another 10 years to sort the mess out by which time it will be 'time for a change' for the sheeplike masses and another chance for a taxation frenzy

I'll make you a deal Gordon Brown, you stop wasting my hard earned money and I'll stop "wasting" food (I eat too much of it TBH ), after you Prime Minister. It's one thing wasting your own money and another thing to waste others.
The guy is useless, I think he'll go down in history as the (certainly one of the...) least succesful PM's ever.
Regardless, as people are being hit more and more in the wallett department, they will start saving here and there, using a little less (or being more efficient at) leccy/gas/water/heating/petrol/food etc.

At the end of this story on the news yesterday, after imploring the world to waste less food, the reporter said all the leaders of the G8 were now off having an 8 course banquet.

However, of course in EU terms, we have one of the lowest VAT rates, and even if we left the EU, it is unlikely they would get any lower.

the leaders of the world’s richest nations, joined by several African leaders, ate course after course of fine food.

You could of course ignore the dodgy position from which Brown's request is made and try to reduce food waste, wasting food benefits nobody apart from tesco Shareholders, a bit of thought and you can make a big difference. Remember to pay for it you pay Gordon Tax, waste less, he gets less to waste !
It seems such a crime to waste food when people dont have enough in so many places around the world, now I am by no means perfect but I am trying.

You shouldn't waste anything if you can help it. Every little helps and all that BUT, have a read here Guy Fawkes' blog of parliamentary plots, rumours and conspiracy under "Let Them Eat Crusts" and he is summed up bery nicely!
"Zimbabwe in crisis. Iraq still a mess. Iran developing nuclear weapons. Roads system approaching gridlock. Filthy hospitals killing people. House prices collapse. Economy in meltdown. Treasury demoralised. Banks propped up by state money. Auditors say Government is fiddling national accounts.
What then does the PM choose to focus on? Why, a lot of it is all our fault. We are throwing away too much food that could be eaten.
Thank you Gordon. Your intellectual prowess is astounding. The scales have fallen from my eyes. Now I see it. Owing to the butterfly effect in chaos theory, that mouldy carrot in my kitchen has precipitated a global ecenomic crisis. That jar of pasta sauce just past its sell by date may be the key to our salvation - nay may even save the world.
Thanks Gordon, what would we do without you".

You shouldn't take any of these so called 'findings' seriously.
