WTF, Arrest warrant from DVLA for 10 yrs ago ?
Missus just had a letter/arrest warrant sent to her saying she owes £225 and will be arrested tomorrow if payment/phone call isnt made before then
this is the 1st of any such kind of letter of any sort, she phones the court, they say they have no proper info but say its from DVLA for a car she had 10 yrs ago that didnt have tax at some stage in 2000, which is crap,if it didnt have tax it would of been sorn, im funny about that, anyway, awaiting phone call back.
The car she owned then wasnt registered at the address she lived at then either, which makes it weird as the woman quoted "its when you lived at ...."
no letters or warnings upto this letter now, nothin.
how fecked up is that then !

yeah, did a check on the number and it was the correct court, just seems so odd, many holes in it, it was addressed to Mr not miss, the car wasnt registered at the address stated,it was a bed sit, just did a check on the car, we scraped it in 1999,to a proper merchant, they say the fine is for 2000.
trying to get it thru to them they are wrong is a dead end

Hmm it sounds really far fetched to be arrested for this alleged offence. You'd most likely, if it were true, just be demanded for the cash or an ensuing court case will follow. I'm gonna go with... HOAX.

AFAIK legal debts, tax office etc, can only be persued for 6 years.
8 years to chase a claim! they would have issued a warrant for non payment years ago.
I think its a wind up

From the jist of the letter it seems to point towards previous letters or court fines or some sort of court order money owed, this £225, it starts, this letter is to warn you of an appending arrest for monies owed not paid.
i dont get how she can not hear a damn thing from dvla, from a collection agency, from a fine company or even a court order date/summons or anything ????

the lady on the phone asked if she hadnt heard from the court after her case years ago(she missed this as didnt hear anything didnt know anything)
when she called they didnt ask for bank details, they said she could get a thingy to void the debt as she didnt know anything about it just has to swear it in court

Did you move house in those 10 years?
Maybe the dvla have been sending the letters all this time but to the wrong house.
Seems a bit of an effort to chase things 10 years old unless the dvla are having a big clearout of all old cases before having an amnesty. who knows.

Mate, gather evidences and go to court, you will be in session for 5mins until the magistrate throws the whole thing out! I know this from experience and 3 of my family members are stinking lawyers!

If they take her to court, turn up and when they can't prove anything and she is found not guilty, stiff them up for the maximum expenses you can get, including for the mental distress of it all!

You shouldnt be going to court! If you/she genuinely hadnt heard of this matter until you received the letter then you should have had the judgement set aside: all it takes is a statutory declaration made in front of a magistrate.
