Blue Impreza Crash, female driver dead
Anyone hear anymore about this?
Was flicking through Sky News and read the story of the collision between the blue scooby and a Fire Engine.
Not been able to find out anymore

Weedon Street and Attercliffe Common: thats the junction opposite Tinsley Wire / Meadowhall Retail Park. What makes this even sadder is that the fire engine was attending a hoax call.

Very sad story.
Hope the little girl pulls through. They should lock the little c*nt up who made the call.
Also, did the fire engine slow down at the junction to check it was safe, or just barrel on through?

Awful set of events.
Is it ok to have a 10 year old in the front seats of cars with dash air bags?
Not being funny just asking the question. I don't know what age is ok.

What a waste.
I hope some good can come of this in that it highlights just how dangerous making hoax calls is! It's not just the fact that the attention of the emergency service has been directed away from genuine cases, it's also the fact that every time they respond to an emergency there is an increased risk of a road accident with the GP. Even with the best will and training available, high speeds and urban areas do not make good bedfellows.
Hope the nipper pulls through!

It's only rear facing baby seats that shouldn't be in the front with an air-bag, unless the bag can be de-activated.
Safest place is obviously in the back, middle seat.
My daughter had to travel in the front of my van when I had one, with airbag.

This needs to be made into an example as to why people should not make hoax calls, hard hitting ads, and wtf is a 17 year old doing that for, what kind of miserable existence do you have to have to think that making hoax calls is fun, he should be made to visit the morgue and the hospital, then the ladies husband and his new baseball bat.
Make my blood boil stuff like that, robbery I can understand, it is for gain but vandalism and abusing the emergency services should be treated very seriously. What the hell is being bred as the future of this country ?

You would think it would be kids making hoax calls if anyone, not a 17 year old. I hope he is held accountable for what his actions have caused. I hope the little girl pulls through - although she will face even more trauma knowing her mother has been killed

Ahh but we now have a generation of 15 to 25yr olds, that thanks to our lack of social structure and poor family upbringing mean they still act like 10year olds. Kicking out time on a Friday night proves that

Charge the little git with manslaughter, My heart goes out to the family
It's the Fire Fighters I feel sorry for too, trying to do their job, and they have to respond to any 999 call, It just goes to show what a sick place this country is coming too
Cheers

This is a bad junction, from this perspective. If the fire appliance didnt have its siren on and it was over the speed limit, then the driver of the Impreza didnt have much of a chance..... So far, the appliances speed has not been made public, neither has whether its siren was being operated (or its air horn through the hazard).

The middle back seat in most vehicles is actually a very dangerous place. I do say most vehicles, as in some its totally fine.
Most vehicles just use a simple lap belt in the middle seat. This can cause very severe abdominal injuries in the event of a crash (you are still better off wearing the belt). Also, the middle "seat" is often not a seat and you can therefore fly out of the belt in side on impacts.

When I last looked, ROSPA deemed it to be the furthest away from any possible impact, i.e. in the centre of the vehicle, so therefore less likely to get hit.
In fact, this very subject was being discussed on the radio last week.
But only with a 3 point seatbelt as opposed to a lap belt.
This question and answer came from Safe Kids USA: Preventing accidental injury. Car, Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is my child safer in the seat behind the driver or behind the front-seat passenger?
As long as a child can be correctly restrained in the rear center position, we generally recommend it. That position is insulated from all crash angles, so it is usually thought of as safest.
The right and left rear seats are similar in relative, based on fatal crash statistics. When selecting between them, some considerations might include the height of the driver, curbside parking, the availability of a door, access to other seating positions, the safety of all other passengers, whether the child needs to be monitored, driver distractions, etc. The final decision must be made by parents and caregivers.
