Question Any qualified electricians?

My mate is having some renovation work done on an older property, and has had all his old plasterwork removed and re-plastered.

In the course of having it done, the electrics were uncovered, none of them in conduit, or under capping, and their plasterer has put it back the same: just plastered over the wires.

Now I don't know about the UK, but this would CERTAINLY be illegal in France.

Does anyone know the UK regs?

Clarkie172 has been helping me on electrical issues and I gather he is fully qualified. Drop him a PM if you don't get a satisfactory response and he doesn't find this thread himself.

Begs the question, why hasnt he had the electrics done at the same time if its a renovation job?

Because they were OK: all new-ish sockets and switches, earth bonded where necessary, and in pvc covered cable.

Not sure what the 17th edition regs say but it used to be common practice to scratch cables in, held just with cables clips.

Why would they need to be in conduit etc?? lol

They just need to be clipped in then plastered over

Tam by the look of her wiring she has already started to spare circuit off so Im not to bothered about your sparky lol,
Back to OP, If it was installed before the 16th edition regs then its a number 4 on the deviations page of a PIT(periodic inspection & Test)
Which means it isnt upto the standards of today(new install) but would have passed when it was installed.
