Default FFS adverts???

I was watching some programs on itv2 tonight and how many advert breaks are there ??? Also how friggin long do they last ??? and its not just this channel now....... I think we are getting like america 8 advert breaks in an hour and each lasting around 4 minutes ?? I have downloaded a few programs which normally play for 1 hour on TV, but once you take the adverts away they only last 38 minutes so basically they bombard you with 22 minutes of adds each hour

Sky+ is your friend. If it's a program I really like to watch I record it, even if I am not doing anything at the time. Just so I can skip the adverts

Yes. And that is why programs on the BBC (such as TopGear) are REALLY an hour of entertainment. Most American TV programs last for 40 minutes.

Anything that I like I either Sky+ (as above) or just download the torrent which has the adverts conveniently removed.

Thumbs down

Been saying this since the first season of Prison Break.

Sick to death of TV in general but watch 'House' and 'Greys Anatomy' on a Thursday night. It feels like there are more advert than program sometimes!!

thats american tv programmes for you, 40 minute program with 20 minutes of ads. One of the reasons I find watching series such as Jerico hard work as the program is condensed or nowt happens from week to week. you also might have noticed that those 30 minutes shows only lasy 20 minutes as well. I recorded the new simpsons last week and with the adverts removed it was 18 minutes long!

The really annoying bit is the way that Channel 5 in particular doesn't follow the same breaks as the US ones. US programs are edited in such a way so as to put breaks in certain places, hence all those mini-cliffhangers. But 5 ignores them and makes its own breaks, which ruin the flow completely.

Bring back the olden days, when the ads just used to say 'Buy Persil for whiter whites' or whatever and only lasted 2 minutes.

And front titles go on and on and on now as well..........we're forever shouting at the telly..............'Just get on with it!!!'

The 'sponsored by' ads drive me nuts. In 'Pushing Daisies' it would suddenly go to 'Sponsored by Toblerone' and for a few seconds you couldn't tell whether it was part of the programme or not........Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Been saying this for some time.

Now think about how much we PAY for those programmes, be it via cable, Sky or W.H.Y.

The programme makers are getting a good deal from the TV companies, who, in turn, make oodles out of advertising, and WE pay

TBH, we ought to get it for free now, the amount of advertising

They have been busy getting authority for longer and more adverts and the supine authorities just let them go ahead of course-Money is far more important than the rest of us! Not to forget the daft idea of increasing the volume for the adverts.

That is really the only way forward for advertising, as annoying as it may be. With Sky+ and the internet, as a company I can only guarantee that my product will appear if it is integrated with the program.

If I were an advertiser (or a TV executive) I would start to seriously think about having a banner during the program that displayed adverts.

i can handle the adds, i dont watch films on tv most of the time, would prefer to just buy a dvd, if its on the tv its probably only around £2.99 to buy the dvd anyway

thing that pisses me off about the adverts are the ******* volume of them, my old tv set used to have some kind of nifty auto volume thing, so everything came out the same level (***** million year old amstrad crt)

the new plasma seams to have missed out this feature

adverts are quite a bit louder, and its a pain

must admit, recently i have been working through the dvd boxsets i got for xmas

torchwood on dvd is awesome compared with normal TV 5.1 sound and a much better picture, upscaled as well, same with doctor who (although its not that good a program IMO)

nearly finished season 1 of "my name is earl" although i dont think watching them on dvd is any better then TV, as they are dam short!!

And disgust everyone, who needs a banner playing adverts while you watch telly, what a silly idea!

If enough people complain, then maybe one could hope for some tighter legislation goevrening adverts which are being put in excessive presidence of actual program content.

As with volume compression, which is used to avoid volume level restrictions.

Yep, that's what we do too.

Sometimes we just pause it at the start, go and make a drink, go to the loo, whatever, etc, basically just waste about 10 - 15 mins doing other things and then watch the programme from the start. Fast forward through the adverts and just about catch up with the "live" broadcast by the end of the last ad break!

Rarely watch anything live on any channel other than BBC1 or BBC2.

Always record other channels on my PVR. Watch them later and zap past the adverts.

Adverts per se` don't really bother me.
It's just the ones for vaginal thrush and Tampax that always seem to come on when I'm eating some oysters or Spag bog that put me off.

What annoys me is that all the commercial breaks on all the channels are at the same time!

Ditto, drives me absolutely mad.
I pretty much try and watch everything on anytime and sky+ nowadays like the others here. Shame I can't automatically record without the ads! (unless you can and I'm being a dummy)
Got to the stage now where I mostly don't have to look at the screen to know how long to fast forward through the ads (about 5 or six seconds!!)
At least cillit bang man has calmed down a bit pmsl

How many of you Skyplussers are able to fast forward at 30X speed? I can

Although I usually have to wind it back because I've missed the program coming back on

Yeah, I reckon they respond better to a firm, yet gentle, womans touch, rather than just whacking at the thing to get it to work properly.....

Oh dear, this is snowballing

Back on track with the ads. It truly is getting to be like the states. Quick intro to the episode then title credits and then adverts straight after! how pooh!

I was in the States a couple of weeks ago and found the ads really exciting because they were all new, this one was my particular favourite and I just love the little song at the end, we found ourselves singing it all day every day

Having said that we tried to watch a 'My Name is Earl' one evening but there were more ads than programme
