Personally I don't mind (it's good to keep some heritage going), but I suppose vfm depends on whether she brings more money into the country than we spend on her

Most likely thousands of pounds.
Do you really care about 66p of that in comparison to the remaining amount?
66p - I say that's about as good VFM as it gets.
Add in the tourism factor and I bet they generate more than 66p per person!!!

If we can have a figure for the Royal Family, can we have one for immigration, the Iraq War, Congestion Charge etc.
I don't mind the Royal family and don't begrudge my 66p but it seems strange that I am paying for people worth hundreds of millions, if they didnt do from tax they would have to raise money via charity donations,
"Just 66 pence a year, barely the price of the Pot Noodle's you plebs eat will keep a family of 30 in Swan, Range Rovers and Helicopters, ask yourself whether you can spare such a small amount to banish suffering in these overpriveliged communities, some go without fresh Polo Horses and have to board scheduled flights, this kind of hardship should not be allowed to continue, and you can make the difference for just 66 pence"

What the country gets back from having the Royal Family makes that 66p absolute peanuts. That family is about all that is holding this country together at the moment too. None of the other "Fat Controllers" are, thats for sure!

I think we should get all the Royal Palaces into a fit and proper state. Apparently things like the wiring at Windsor Castle (or maybe Buck House, I can't remember) hasn't been done since the 40s .... For the amount the country gets back in tourists (and thus tax and spending) it's the least we can do ...

The Royal Family is a major net commercail benefit, inc tourism etc.
It's impossible to calculate, but ridiculous to argue the opposite, Royalist or not.
Richard.

66p does not seem that much when you look at the big picture.
However, moaning that they do not have enough money to sort out their properties while sitting on a large fortune does seem more than a little daft. If they were skint and needed some cash for a roof then I could understand it.

Everyone seems to go on about how good they are for tourism?
As far as I can gather, most tourists are bloody foreigners.
I find it difficult to believe that these types of people find favour on this site.
Some of them are probablly asylum seekers and so forth-or germans

But this bull about tourism.... I'd love to know how and why not having a Royal family would effect it (or is the Queen meeting visitors at Heathrow these days)
Paris has massively more tourist per year than London, yet they got rid of their royalty a long long time ago.....

Maybe Phil can earn his keep by picking on illegal immegrants so they leave the country
Liz & Anne could work for Gordon's in the quality control departments.
Camilla should appear at a minimum of one horse race per week - not sure which jockey would get to ride her though
Any suggestions what the others could do?

I'm fully in favour of a Royal family (like Martin, mainly due to the alternatives). And obviously they do have "an" effect on Tourism, but its hard to quantify (Although the most visited place in London is Trafalgar Square). So is that effect they have on British Business, that would potentially not get contracts without Royal connections.
The 66p figure is of course a gross figure. The Net figure is almost impossible to calculate.
